Wait For UC's

Hi, quick question. I have a 3.2 gpa and 61 uc transferable units. Just got out of the U.S. Navy and already got accepted to Cal State Los Angeles for Business Admin and Cal State Fullerton for Electrical Engineering for the spring term but I also applied to UCSD, UCI, UCR, SDSU, Cal State San Marcos for the fall term and all for Economics. Should I hold off on LA and Fullerton and wait to see if I get into any of the UC’s.

Thanks

well, that depends if you are prepared to accept delaying your college career for a whole nother year just in case you aren’t accepted into the UC’s. I don’t know about your situation, but i wouldn’t take that risk.

Its not really a whole year, its just one semester. Acceptance letters come in for the UC’s in April so its only three months away. I guess I just like the whole prestige of going to a UC, but the CSU’s aren’t so bad either.

Work backwards.

I like to see where it is I want to be, and then I work backwards to figure out my path to my goal. If you plan to pursue an MBA or some other graduate program, your chancesa re better coming from a UC as opposed to a CSU. That being said, a CSU is still a fantastic education but lacks the cache of a UC…and in business, cache is well…cache. So it might every well be worth the wait to see if a UC accepts you.

A 3.2 isn’t going to know anyones socks off but being that you served in the Navy will give you some bonus points for sure. And if your essays were impressive I would say you have a very good chance for an offer from a UC.

Your best chances go like this, with the most likely at the top:

1) CSSM (San Marcos sucks, I lived there…avoid)

2) SDSU (party school - avoid)

3) UCR (high acceptance rate, crappy campus, but better than SDSU)

4) UCI (a commuter campus that is underrated…this is a great match for you)

5) UCSD (great school, beautiful area, but mostly math centric…I am not sure about their business programs…would be a feather in your cap to go to UCSD)

exilo is right on this one.

2.8+ gets u into UCSB. Ur GPA makes u competitive for all the UC except maybe UCLA and Berkley.

Good luck and thanks for ur work in the Navy
