Essays/LORs/Other
Great Essay

AS OF RIGHT NOW, university of miami in florida is my top choice, apart from university of tampa. mostly looking to apply to schools in florida.
would be applying ED

Did you reverse your unweighted and weighted GPA here? Your unweighted gpa should be out of 4.0. And what year are you in school?

What is your college budget?

Colleges here expect your LORs to be from academic teachers who have taught you in a class. The person at the Polish school likely would be a supplemental LOR….some colleges acceot those and some do not. Most prefer one STEM teacher and one humanities teacher.

To where? You can only apply ED to ONE college. Also, I’m assuming you are a HS junior because ED deadlines have passed for this coming year. So…are you a HS junior?

I didn’t see a budget mentioned in your post. How much can your parents pay annually for college for you?

What level of Bright Futures do you qualify for?

Also, if your parent is a college graduate, you are not first generation.

yes! i think i got the 2 mixed up
I am a junior
I don’t necessarily have a strict college budget, although a scholarship or any financial help would be nice

I used to be a student at the polish school
Applying ED to Umiami
I don’t have a specific budget
I am not sure what Bright futures level i qualify for (not sure what that is)

If you want to study finance, you can study finance? Why only Florida? For example, you’d qualify for $28K a year (out of $33K tuition) at Alabama and Culverhouse is a fantastic b school.

Lots of Florida schools have finance.

Tampa is a given. U Miami is a match. Your GPA is a bit low. ED will help.

Of course, this is all predicated on you meeting the academic preparations (enough English, Math, social sciences lab sciences, etc.

In addition to Miami and Tampa, look at Stetson and Florida Tech as well (on the private school level).

Best of luck.

University if Miami is awesome.
Let’s see- common data set says SAT 75% is 1450, so you are in good condition there. But GPA has 64% of students over 3.75 GPA, but maybe your schooling with years abroad may lead to flexibility on that.
Extracurriculars are a little interesting, but I bet a lot of kids have more, that being said, your story could be pretty interesting in your personal statement and supplementals. Kids I know who visited this year love it, but they are mostly music kids, but I’m sure you will love it too.

ED is roughly 55% for 2 years ago. So I bet you would have a pretty good shot.
Good luck!

Rollins would be better than UTampa and Stetson for business/finance in my opinion.
Why just Florida though?
And why not UF/FSU?

This is step 1 in a college search. Please ask your parents what they are able and willing to pay comfortably. You don’t want to waste time and effort applying to colleges you won’t be able to afford.

Have your parents run the net price calculators on college websites to figure out if you qualify for financial aid. Remember - colleges decide what you should be able to pay and whether or not you have financial need (in their view).

You can apply ED 1 to one school and then several schools offer an ED2 option (only if you didn’t get into ED 1!)
Often ED 1 November 1 with notification mid December and then ED 2 December 31 -Jan 4th ir so and then you get increased chance of admission in exchange for your commitment but you don’t find out in time to save your self from applying everywhere else

Are you a resident of Florida…or do you just want to apply to FL colleges? Bright Futures is a college aid funding program for florida HS graduates.

When? Did you already apply ED to University of Miami for fall 2024 start? Or are you applying ED in the future?

You need to know how much your parents can afford every year for college for you. Did you run a net price calculator for University of Miami?

I believe you will need to be able to document well your home school coursework so that the colleges know you have met their required courses. Will you be taking the GED also?

As a home schooler, did you take the AP exams for these ten courses?

chose florida because for me it just suits my needs more than let’s say a university in delaware
i will check out those schools thank u!!

I thought my extra curriculars were a bit lack luster i don’t think it would count as an extra curricular if i had studied multiple languages for numerous years to be able to communicate with international students
Thank u very much!!

Are you a FL resident?

What about FL suits you? The weather? Or what?

And costs…please pin that down or any suggestions here are a shot in the dark.

def was looking into uf and sfu as safety schools
personally i would like to go to a school near a big city

I don’t see Rollins as having finance - just business.

Given Miami and Tampa, I’m assuming the student wants mid size…but don’t know.

Hmmm - FSU might be a match…might not.

UF is a reach.

Neither is a safety.

Good luck.

I am not a Fl resident
the weather yes but the connections i have and can gain in florida would be nice
i qualify for a better financial aid in umiami than in tampa hence why i am keen on applying ED but it all comes down to whether or not i will get in let alone receive it

thank u for the rec!

Be aware of the hidden costs at UMiami. The tuition goes up every year and, from what I understand, housing is not guaranteed all four years and is expensive.
