The Amazing Race 2019

Set your DVRs. It’s finally back starting on April 17th. The theme is Reality Showdown with contestants from Survivor, Big Brother, and previous seasons of The Amazing Race.

I’ll be watching! One of my favorite shows EVER!!! We also watch Survivor and BB so should be interesting! (though I always feel you don’t have to know their past to enjoy them!)

YES!!! ?

I love this show!

While there are times when I like seeing returning contestants, there comes a point where returning player fatigue sets in. With 2 seasons of Big Brother and 2 seasons of TAR already, Rachel Reilly (as but one example) is well past the sell-by date. Rupert Boneham, with 4 seasons of Survivor behind him, might be a close second, although I’m a bit interested to see how he’ll fare in this venue.

I watched this show religiously from Season 1 through about Season 15 and then only occasional viewing since. I loved the show in the early years when it was “ordinary” people who I could maybe have some connection with. I don’t watch other reality shows so I have no pre-interest in contestants from those shows. I did like the all-stars versions of AR when it was contestants who had only been on AR. I think the more shows a contestant is on the more awareness of and playing to the camera takes place and that’s not what I want to see.

I’m excited for the show to return, but not excited about the contestants. Since I love the show, I’ll watch anyway, but I much prefer contestants we’re unfamiliar with.

If you don’t know them, just think of them as regular people you don’t know!

I was disappointed when they went from having 2 season of AR a year, to one. I don’t really know why they did this because it seemed that the show was raking in Emmys for years in a row . Maybe Phil wanted to semi-retire.

This show was the hallmark of our tv watching as a family when the kids were young. They all still will make time to watch it. If I was going to try a reality show, this would probably be the one I’d give a shot - though I would NOT live through any challenge that involved heights!

I’m looking forward to it! I don’t watch Big Brother but I actually enjoy seeing familiar faces from Survivor and TAR return. I would have chosen others but a lot of previous contestants have no desire to return. Here’s hoping that Rachel limits the endless crying this time around.

Rachel?? again?? That may be a deal breaker. ?. I really enjoy TAR—but not when there are “reality” show or social media “celebs”.

I could if they didn’t act like they should be known!

Us too. Which is probably why I have such warm fuzzies of the earlier years. It was my sit and relax tv when Ss were babies/toddlers and I rarely sat down to watch tv. Then older son started watching with me when he was about 7 maybe (hard to remember now). He was very interested in geography. A year or so later twin Ss joined us. It was on Sunday nights and a relaxing way to end the weekend together. I remember that AR was when my kids first heard the word “gay” and asked me what it meant and we had a conversation about it. Then older S got too busy and it was just me and twin Ss for a season or two. Then they stopped watching and it was just me again!

I can’t believe it but I too have been watching since Season 1 in 2001 and remember enjoying many seasons with my sons on Sunday evenings.

I had not looked at the list of contestants and am disappointed to hear that Rachel is back. I have seen enough of her to last a lifetime and I don’t even watch BB.

Hi! I started another post not realizing there already was one. Oops. I’m a little bummed that I’m supposed to know these contestants but don’t.

I don’t think it will matter much that you don’t know them. I know some of them but not all. Reality stars will make sure you know them pretty darn quick!!

Ready for tonight! Don’t like the returning reality show player concept, but watching anyway.

I’ll be watching because of the Big Brother teams. I like having people to root for that I sort of know. Not rooting for whiny Rachel though!

Based on last night’s episode, it doesn’t look like he’ll be around for long.

You would think that former TAR contestants would have an advantage from having done this before, but some of them haven’t played in a long time and are older. How long the others last will depend on how quickly they learn how best to approach each task.

It felt like there were a lot of holes last night - the episode flew by, but left me wondering about a lot of the teams…moreso than previous seasons.

There are a couple of TAR previous teams I adored that are back - Becca & Floyd ? and Tyler & Korey! ?

I’m hopeful the show gets lots of viewers and stays around.

Was interesting to see the Survivor pairs have such a hard time. And to talk about the difference between sitting around camp most of the time vs non-stop activity on TAR. Rupert seemed to have an especially hard time with navigation. Unless something changes, he and Laura may not be around for long.
