I enjoy TAR but prefer the 1 hour episode length.

When they designed the season for 90 minute episodes, as in season 35, it was fine. When they slapped in an extra 30 minutes (22 with commercials) as they did in season 36 (which was filmed before 35 and before they knew the episodes would be 90 minutes) it was less successful.

Anyway, I’m optimistic and will be watching

I really liked this episode. I’m not surprised by who went home.

My only nit is that because the singers were in so much makeup on the mat, I had trouble keeping these teams we just met straight.

Have they gone back to paying the taxis? One of my fave things from back in the day was seeing how much money teams had and them figuring out how to make it last.

I liked the fork in a road. I always struggle in the beginning with so many teams.

I liked the fork in the road too. I guess that’s only something they’ll do in the first leg? And it allowed them to start with 14 teams instead of the usual 12. Not surprised about the eliminations but I liked the sisters and it would have been nice to see them go a little further. The guy who wasn’t happy with second place looks like he’s going to be annoying. Or definitely this season’s “bad edit.” I’m just happy it’s back. I can use the distraction.

I really liked the episode and really do like the 90 minute episodes - yes, at times it can feel monotonous, but most times for me it gives a nice chunk of time at the stops to see what is what.

I really already loved the sisters that were eliminated. Not surprised but yes I was cheering for them!

Finally finished watching.

  • I wish it was a rule that no one eliminates the first leg. SO much to go through to have to leave!
  • How many of you could have climbed that thing to get the yellow ticket? That looked HARD. I feel that it was sort of an automatic disadvantage to the older couples.
  • Did they do a bad job of highlighting the teams? I swear some got to the end and I hadNO idea who they were - and I’m not talking the make up either! The dancers!
  • Wow, that one dude who talked about getting back with his wife (the ones who were ahead but then everyone caught up at the ferry) is a real a_shole! What a pouter at the finish line! That was awful.

I had to look up how old Phil is when he told “Pops” that he wants to look like him when he’s 64. Phil is 57!

Glad to have the show back.

For TAR fans, there is a British show on Britbox called Race Across the World. It is similar to TAR. Some differences are: only 5 teams race, they are given cash for the race, and they can do jobs along the way to earn more $$ if they overspend, they are given a map and the cash at the start, pretty much it!

We just started a season where they start in Vancouver and have to get to St. Johns Newfoundland. They also race for a much longer period, in this season for 8 weeks.

I think the first leg elimination is one of the hooks of the show, though. People watch the first episode to see the losers that couldn’t even make it past the first leg.

I could not have climbed that tower.

They were several teams we didn’t get to know at all. It seems it’s usually that way though.

LOL - I looked up Phil’s age at that remark also. He’s been on TAR a long time so I figured he had to be in his 50s.

Oh wow I don’t watch to see who gets eliminated first - I always feel terrible for them!

To be honest I love Phil but also though he might be right next door to 64!!

The parents of 8 sons (I can’t even imagine, I only have 3) are a casting gem. They remind me of Penn and Kim. From the family photos they showed in the first episode it seems he lost a lot of weight and got in shape before the show.

I also like Pops and his son.

The intersection was interesting in how it can really impact a team. I can’t remember when that was last used. The Sumo wrestler was great, even if his parts needed to be blurred occasionally. I laughed at each attempt to move him, and how long he let various teams try before stepping backward. And I never knew how mochi was made so that was interesting.

They don’t remind me of Penn and Kim but they are a fun couple.

I don’t know why I don’t remember the intersection - I’ve been watching for years!

The couple that won is very interesting. I know we’ve only seem them for two weeks. He at times can SEEM a bit tough on her/them but maybe it’s just his personality or his quirk. They both seem very hands off. Seems like when they have a big success (like they WON the leg of the race) they are still very hands off - no hugging, kissing, touching. Ok, it that’s their norm but it’s noticeably different to me.

I’m liking the married younger couple who the guy was a former wrestler and was so excited for that challenge.

Sorry, but I would NOT be into having any part of sumo wrestling/touching!!

Remember, they are the ones who split and got back together because of their love of the race (as opposed to their love for each other )

It hasn’t been used in 15 years. Last time was the season Dan & Jordan won. But it’s been on some international versions in the interim
