Best minor for Statistics Major?

ARGWUSARGWUS 5 replies19 threads New Member
I am required to minor in a field of application with my Statistics Major. I am considering a minor in either Engineering Technology (Construction Science Courses), Geography, Mathematics, or Psychology. Anyone have a good idea of what to minor in based on those options, as well as the outcomes for each minor mentioned in regards to the workforce when combined with the stats degree (i.e like if I minored in math, would it help me in jobs like statistical modeling, and in geography would it help with population statistics).

Many statistics majors go into finance or actuarial jobs. So a minor in finance, economics, or the like may be helpful if that is your goal. (See http://www.beanactuary.com if actuarial work is of interest.)

The whole big-data concept is basically a merging of Statistics and Computer Science. You don't need to take the whole CS program. Just take a senior-level database course and the prerequisites (Intro Programming, Data Structures, etc). From the Stats department, take Computational Statistics/Statistical Computing and from either the Stats or CS dept (might be jointly-offered) take Machine Learning.
