Hyper-competitive admissions season, with particular schools on the look-out for so-called “best fits” (people who love the school and will enroll).

Also, from what you’ve posted, nothing really stands out about your app.

TMX, well look at the bright side you did get into college, unlike some, you were waitilisted at two great schools, now its up to you and your advisor to really make a push for them if one is your top choice, then say so and don’t be bashful about an unrelenting but not obnoxious push to get in, via email, letters, recent accomplishments, great grades on your report card, you CAN get off the waitlist, don’t wait either, get started ASAP and also get your advisor to be your advocate. Villanova and Notre Dame are both big schools which do utilize their waitlist…so don’t despair, get proactive and get busy. I wish you the best of luck, what can I say, its been a rediculously crazy year for admissions! All the best…

SAT and ACT math only go up to what? Algebra II Trig?

Perfect scores there but only a 750 on your MathIIC doesn’t really prove much.

Honestly, applications are incredibly competitive nowadays. Simply taking a lot of courses won’t suffice. If your grades are only “decent to good”, it’s not going to cut it at places like Northwestern. Additionally, your SAT composite is kind of low for some of these schools.

Also, you mention that you didn’t even want to apply to Villanova. Why would they bother accepting a student who doesn’t want to attend their school. Your attitude probably showed itself in your essay, and they rejected you to make room for a student who didn’t consider himself above the college.

2010 sat, but 800 of that was in math. so … 1210 was split between cr and wr. You weren’t applying to engineering programs (correct?), and I suspect that the low non-math scores combined with the disappointing sat II math score (disappointing only because of the 800 sat and 36 act in math) was the clincher. What were your high school grades like in math classes and in non-math classes? Did these follow the same trend?

Wake and Villanova are HARDLY shoe-ins for someone with a 2010. You may have been, at best, a match for those schools. Acceptance rates for both schools are 42%, according to collegeboard. Not sure about Villanova, but I know Wake is huge on the essay thing. Both are big with alumni. Interest is important oo. Did you visit, talk with admissions, interview, etc?

From your test scores, it looks like you’re lopsided, intellectually. I don’t mean any offense but I’m guessing you’re kind of weak in the humanities and social sciences. Colleges like well-rounded applicants.

those are difficult schools and it doesnt say anyhting about you as a candidate, if you really want to see how “good” you are or whatever, u should apply to 20 top schools and THEN if u dont get in theres something wrong. u applied to a few selective schools, dont worry!
