09-10 Official SAT Practice Test Answer Explanations

Where can I find the answer explanations to the 2009-2010 Official SAT Practice Test? I’ve been looking online and on this forum but I have not been able to find anything.

I don’t think there are answer explanations for anything but the online courses/.

Well, if that is the case, I guess I will just post a couple of the questions I missed on this thread and see why I got those wrong. Below is one writing question and one reading question.

[Only by tapping] their last reserves of energy [were] the team members able [to salvage] [what was beginning] to look like a lost cause. [No error.]

I put [only by tapping] as the answer because I thought that it should be [only by tapping INTO]. Is that preposition necessary to make this sentence grammatically correct? The correct answer is E.

As she wrote a final letter on her typewriter—she did hate letting the old machine go—Georgia did considerable philosophizing about the irony of working for things only to the end of giving them up. She had waded through snow- drifts and been drenched in pouring rains, she had been frozen with the cold and prostrated with the heat, she had been blown about by Chicago wind until it was strange there was any of her left in one piece, she had had front doors—yes, and back doors too—slammed in her face, she had been the butt of the alleged wit of menials and hirelings, she had been patronized by vapid women as the poor girl who must make her living some way, she had been roasted by—but never mind—she had had a beat* or two! And now she was to wind it all up by marrying Joseph Tanker, who had made a great deal of money out of the manufacture of paper bags. This from her ---- who had always believed she would end her days in New York, or perhaps write a realistic novel exposing some mighty evil.

In context, the phrase “This from her” (Lines 47-48) helps to suggest that a

A) specific feeling is quite heartfelt
B) stated viewpoint is highly personal
C) certain decision is out of character
D) particular behavior is extremely upsetting
E) given attitude is unsurprising

The correct answer is C. Can someone please explain to me why? This question I really did not understand while taking this test. Thanks for your help!

I believe the first one is an idiom.

Second one is because she always imagined herself as doing something great to end her career, but she ends up marrying a person who made a lot of money by selling toilet paper (which is pretty disgraceful and shameful).

So INTO is not necessary in this context, correct? Thanks for your help btw!

nope

tenchars.

For the second one, it is just how it is. People say things like " coming from the guy" to emphasize an abnormal action. “this from her” is the same.
