I know it probably wouldn’t work, but could I put myself down as a pacific islander if I’m 1/16 Indonesian and 15/16 Chinese.

That is kinda . . . incredibly misleading and morally questionable.

Unless you have strong ties to Indonesia or Indonesian culture, this is pathetic opportunism. Moreover, Indonesians are typically not even classified as PIs.

Are Pacific Islanders even URMs?

Well, the way I see it, my dad lived in Indonesia and my last name is Indonesian

And? Having an Indonesian last name does not entitle you to anything. Unless you actually have ties to Indonesian culture, I would not recommend marking it.

^Me neither. Seems misleading. And probably won’t give you a leg up.

It’s a personal decision BUT if the adcoms somehow find out that you’re stretching it a bit, that will be viewed as a mark against your character.
I know the chances of this happening are small but you have to decide if it’s a risk you’re willing to take.
