1 AP during junior year?

i’m kind of worried because i can only take 1 ap during junior year while my friends in other schools are taking 3-5 aps. for junior year in my school, they only offer ap english language/comp, us history, and calculus. however, us history is completely full and i haven’t finished pre-calculus yet so i can’t get into those aps. so im just taking ap english language. and even if i got straight a’s the highest possible gpa i can get is 4.16 . i’m planning to self-study us. history and another ap. do you guys think even though the gpa is kinda low, if i self-study and do good on the ap exams, i can still get into ucla? thanks!

Well I don’t know about UCLA, specifically, but I know that only being able to take one AP [chemistry] my junior year [couldn’t take gov b/c it didn’t fit my schedule and I’m terrible at bio] since my school also limits junior choices that it really didn’t hinder my chances, because I mean who’s to blame if you’re only taking the courses that you’re able to take, I mean there’s really nothing else that you can do except self-study, so don’t stress that, just compensate by taking a fair few your senior year, at least that’s what I did and it worked out, so good luck with that :D

I don’t know about UCLA but APUSH is a difficult exam to self study imo… I had the class and we did a lot of in class and out of class work in order to get through everything.

^^I agree. We had a hard teacher who never gave us an “8” on any DBQ or FRQ every week. It did pay off though since most us scored passing grades (mostly 3’s and 4’s) and I’m just glad that the whole experience was over with–although if you’re seriously thinking about taking the exam, keep in mind the breadth and scope of the level of difficulty of studying it. A good direction would be to consult an APUSH teacher and ask him/her about the DBQ format and how to write a thesis and thematic essay that addresses the question and highlight some of your opinions on the topic. I scored a “4” but I thought I could’ve done better since I basically knew all the material–but yea it didn’t come easy I had to cram like crazy during the final week, trying to review everything because you never know if they’re going to pop open a question about colonial culture/politics/social aspects or something related to the Second Great Awakening/Era of Good Feelings, president’s policies and how they changed for the better or worse domestically or on the world stage, etc etc but in all I loved the class and the exam was kinda easy but the work isn’t

Hmmm… well, if you can’t take them, nobody can blame you. It’s the equivalent of a school offering no AP classes, except a little different I guess…

(On a little aside, I’m taking 6 AP’s, and starting to regret it a teensy bit)

AP US is easy. If you are good at Euro, then US is even easier.

^^I guess for some people it is. I can’t believe that 4 people that I know of all failed the exam–I guess different schools have better students? I don’t where to point

I took APUSH, but I know that I could’ve gotten a 5 on the exam if I self studied (I got a 5 anyways). Then again, I’m a history person.

And hey, I’ve take 5 AP classes and all I got is .08 extra GPA. Count yourself lucky to be in a school that doesn’t give out crap weighted GPA.
