$10 essay question

With this, do you really need to “plan” to spend $10? Or could it be that you use the bill for something else and coincidentally it is a $10 bill?
thanks

I think that’s very orginal. I’d say go for it…but listen to non-alaskans first.

Go for it!

any other input?..im kinda afraid to do it seeing as so many people seem to write this knowing theyre going to spend 10 bucks…

FWIW, mine wasn’t one of those “hmm…I have bucks in my pocket - what should I spend it on?” sort of essays. In my situation, the amount just happened to be ten dollars. In fact, the ten dollars wasn’t really the main focus of my essay. Hope that helps.

the essay states you have $10 spend to plan a day’s adventure so you can interpret that anyone you choose. many students detail how they will spend the exact amount, others use some of the money, and some actually do what you are thinking and that is use the bill.

Whatever you choose, remember to be ORIGINAL, CREATIVE, and have an ADVENTURE.

Good luck.

I bought $10 worth of Choacolate from Walmart and mailed it to them. Got accepted to BME lol…

that’s great! i love humor like that and i’m glad they did too. my cousin told me that in one of her friend’s essay topic was “what was the boldest thing you’ve ever done,” in which he just wrote “this” and sent it off. he got accepted at some prestigious college ( i forgot which one).

Yeah,

one kid not too long ago got into Berkeley, and the prompt was something like

What is the biggest challenge in your life?

And he wrote “Getting into Berkeley”

And got in. :D

How long do you guys think this essay should be?

bump…is 1000 words too many?

Kind of! I’d say ~500 words.

A friend of mine interested in engineering wrote for his essay he’d use the $10 to buy old toys and appliances. Afterwards he’d take them apart and improve them. Mine wasn’t that creative. :/

I’ve also heard of people writing their essay on the $10 bill.

I don’t think his idea was THAT creative… I’ve thought of it… and so have many others i’m sure… ideas like buying 10 dollars’ worth of chocolate, now that’s creative… and as far as i know… it doesn’t even have to be an essay, so you can write however long’s necessary for your originality… although, I wouldn’t write any longer than 250 words… it’ll bore the crap out of the person reading it since he or she has already read a nuggets worth of essays already.

There is no word limit on the $10 essay. Most of the written essays are between 500 - 1000 words. I can tell you that the adcoms do not like it when the essays are too short and lack any real content.

every year a number of applicants write one paragraph stating how they would spend the money and that is it. Remember be original, be creative, make it an adventure and if you do that, word count won’t matter.

good luck
