So, if your kid applied to >10 schools and FAFSA only has 10 slots, what do you do? I’ve seen that you refile the FAFSA and put in new schools, but how do you tell if the first 10 got the information? Some of the web portals don’t show receipt. And once the few that do show receipt on the web portal, do they not need access to the information again?
Once you get the email that the first fafsa was processed you can submit for the 2nd batch. The first fafsa is sitting in a database, the schools have been notified it’s there, but the schools will pull and process the fafsa on their own schedule. The schools you can see in the portals are the ones that just did it on an earlier schedule.
If this is an estimated fafsa, once you update it after taxes are filed or after the DRT is used, you will have to submit to all the schools again.
great reply “annoyingdad” !! (love that handle, me too…) , once using the DRT only the 2nd batch of original estimated FAFSAs get the DRTed batch forwarded, so you need to go back as soon as they allow to process (correct) the FAFSA again, this time with the original 1st batch of schools listed… then all 20 possible schools get the DRTed FAFSA to review… my son applied to 20 so i know… heaven help us all…
