<p>In particular note this tip: Don’t let shame, embarrassment, or ego stop you from filing a legitimate appeal.</p>
<p>Indeed, even if you blew the College Fund at Caesars Palace or it’s sailing the seven seas with dear old dad and his secretary, there is no tale too humiliating to share with finaid folks, and they’ve heard most of them before. Home-front mismanagement won’t always mean a better aid award, but it never hurts to be honest about family foibles and see where it gets you.</p>
<p>Also, whatever your reasons for asking for more money, always act grateful for the $$ you’ve received already and for the time given you by the finaid staff. Never sound irked or entitled, though do be persistent when required.</p>
