if the story is true as stated then three cheers for the judge! While I believe that the 10 year old should be dealt with accordingly, is there need for police involvement? I grew up in a tough town in the early 1960’s. Everyone had a name for everyone else…terrible but true. Funny we all grew up, learned to get along, married some of the people that as kids we offended with hideous rascist remarks, but through it all we fought in wars together, voted together, paid our taxes and believe that we are americans not Italian,Hispanic,Irish,Jewish, etc… While I detest hate speech I find it interesting that people assimilated back then, but now we celbrate culture and individuality which inadvertently seems to cause a division among us all…I don’t have all the asnwers and I do agree that hate speech should be dealt with immediately, but I also agree that the PC police pendulum has swung too far to the point of insanity.

When I was in the 8th grade, one of my classmates called me a honky, so I slugged him in the stomach (I was very much a tomboy back then). We were both taken to the principal’s office where we received a good “talking to” and returned to class never to pester one another again. It didn’t take the involvement of the police, courts or parents.
