Let’s help the admitted students choose Duke. Please respond with what you love about attending Duke University.

Cool. Let’s keep it going. Feel free to give more than one reason.

. . . and that alumni generosity extends beyond “checkbooks,” including mentoring, internships, and wise counsel for university governance and for Duke community members.

OUTRAGEOUS AMBITION. Senator, Governor, and beloved Duke President Terry Stanford coined this phrase about forty years ago, when discussing University aspirations, the sprit and drive of the place – and it’s people – and the willingness and ability of Dukies to convert big dream into even larger realities through hard work, innovation, intelligence, and leadership. It remains a dominant part of Duke’s ethos. It is a primary and an enduring reason Duke’s trajectory is so ascendant and both the University and it’s constituencies have moved so far, so fast.

It’s K’ville on the eve of the home UNC basketball game, it’s a Nobel Prize, it’s the entire global Duke community near-simultaneously engaging in service projects, it’s student-athletes who truly excel at both, it’s undergraduates, post-docs, alumni, and faculty collaborating on critical work, it’s Duke Med leading a remarkable Global Health Initiative, it’s a worldwide Duke-community where mutual respect and friendship abound, and it’s SO much more. This spirit is as contagious as it is instructive, and it is likely to permanently enhance your life.

Quality education, full college experiences with work-hard-play-hard spirit, excellent career achievements, research opportunities, and, most of all, Duke’s values and institutional setting leading all types of students to develop their intellectual, professional and life skills as well as values and goals. You can prosper there if you can afford expensive costs.

As a parent of an international student there, I surprised three times. Surprised first when I realized that Duke is extremely selective school even for perfect applicants. (Duke’s International reputation is worse than real.) Surprised secondly when I realized the dignity and values of Duke featured by the balanced and well-rounded approach in realizing various goals (education, research, student advising and etc). (I think top of the top better than all the schools except 3-4 research schools in this aspect.) Surprised thirdly when I bump into some people CC here who can not and will not be able to understand the real values and dignity of Duke because of their views or perceptions are not balanced and critical-thinking. (Theirs are oriented only by academics, location, basketball or sometimes sensational media coverage simply).

Excellent research opportunities such as focus, work-study, independent research, and etc.

Nowadays the importance of reseach at undergrad is increasing rapidly. Duke is one of the best place for experiencing that.
