I’m such a sucker for these types of pictorials. I occasionally pull out my parents’ college yearbooks from the 40s and flip through and my own from the 70s. Now I have my kids pics on Facebook to represent college in the 10s. Some things are constant about those years no matter what decade.

A few years ago I ran across a wonderful film from the U of Oregon that I can’t find now but I’m searching… what struck me most was that compared to today’s students, they were all so skinny! Yes, it was filmed in 1950, and the students had been children during the depression, but Yikes, they make my '70’s classmates look sturdy and current kids look downright obese… oh, wait… maybe we really are getting fatter?

Thank you so much! I took over an hour to look at these wonderful images and read the captions. Really amazing. American history is something that our kids still tend to gloss over, hitting the high points over a single year’s study (usually mixed with state history). I think it deserves much more.

Thanks for the link! When my D was leaving our midwest home for her east coast 7 sisters school a year and a half ago, the church ladies had a farewell tea/shower for her. They researched what college life was like for women a hundred years ago. The number one “must have” for female college students? Evidently, a chafing dish!

great link, thanks!

Thanks for the link, soozie. I really enjoyed this.

I belong to a sorority alum club, one of my favorite things is when the older members talk about their college days.
