12 on my list chances

male from kansas
4.12 gpa in private school
act 32
sat cr 710, math 700, writing 650 and will take again next year
play basketball and soccer, did one year of speech, leader of Habitat for Humanity project at my school, attended Boys State, national merit commended (I think)

My list
Yale (dad went there, i know chances are slim)
Dartmouth
Cornell (ny)
Northwestern
Middlebury
Amherst
Bowdoin
Boston College
UVA (dad went to med school there, dont know if that helps)
UNC (dad was an employee and I was born in state)
Boston U
U of Kansas (safety)

Howabout APs and SATIIs?

o sorry well i will have taken 5 aps by graduation and have taken the sat IIs but i dont have scores for them yet

ARe you awarded or recognized in any of your sports?

Ummm…almost none of those schools are realistic for you. The only thing you have going for you is that you’re from Kansas and a legacy at Yale, but you probably won’t get into any of these places except for your safety and BU.

Yale HIGH REACH
Dartmouth HIGH REACH
Cornell REACH
Northwestern LOWer REACH
Middlebury LOWer REACH
Amherst REACH
Bowdoin LOWer REACH
Boston College LOW REACH/HIGH MATCH
UVA [no, it doesn’t help] HIGH MATCH
UNC MATCH
Boston U MATCH
U of Kansas SAFETY

Your location doesn’t REALLY alter your chances too significantly. Legacy won’t do that much either I’m guessing. Is that list of ECs all you have or is there more? What about awards, leadership positions, etc.? Oh, and unweighted GPA? I’m just basing this chancing on what you provided me with. I’m sure you must have other stuff…

Ehh, BC isn’t THAT hard to get into.
UNC is more of a high-match/reach as you are not in-state (it doesn’t matter that you were born there, but it might help that your dad works there, but if that is not considered UNC is as hard as any school save HYPS). BU is pretty safe, BC is a pretty good match. Amherst and Middlebury are probably just as tough to get into as any ivy league schools.

In a nutshell, this is what I think. You have about 8 schools that are up in the air. You might get into a few of them. Kansas is a good safety. BU is pretty safe, and BC is a good match. If you only want to apply to 12 schools, I would cut out some of your reaches and add schools more like Tufts, NYU, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Georgetown, Emory, and Michigan.

I say that BC is a high match/low reach because of the OP’s ec’s. The OP’s scores and GPA are within range, but the other areas [ec’s, awards, leadership] make it difficult for the OP to stand out in the applicant pool.

Ok Ill try to get everything this time
ACT 32
SAT I cr 710, m 700, w 650 (will take again)
SAT II ush 760, m level 2 670, lit 660 (most only require 2 right?)
APs- 5 by graduation, have taken ushist but dont have the socre yet
GPA 4.12 w on 4.0 scale (dont know uw but my lowest grades were 2 B+s first sem of frosh year in art and spanish)
ECS-
Soccer (9-12)
Basketball (9-12)
Habitat (9-12) project coordinater senior year
Food club (10-12)
Speech (10)
Boys state (comm. serv coordinater)
A few summer jobs but none since summer after frosh year
Varsity letterman, ushist award at school, nat merit commended, does homecoming court help lol

school is a priv prep school with some grads going to top schools. It does not rank and is located in KC, MO.

college listed above, a few safeties and matches, many reaches. I understand that I will not be admitted to many, and prob most, of the reaches. However, I figure that I should at least get into one pretty good school off of this list. Does anyone elses have any comments?

s snack shut the hell up

lol thanks branderson

bump…

anyone at all

cmon i know you want to post

por favor…

Yale reach
Dartmouth reach
Cornell match-small reach
Northwestern small reach
Middlebury semi-reachy (i love that word)
Amherst reach
Bowdoin ???
Boston College in
UVA [no, it doesn’t help] in
UNC in
Boston U in
U of Kansas in

Yale (dad went there, i know chances are slim)-High Reach
Dartmouth-Reach
Cornell (ny)-Reach
Northwestern-Reach
Middlebury-Low Reach
Amherst-Low Reach
Bowdoin-Match
Boston College-Match
UVA (dad went to med school there, dont know if that helps)-High Match
UNC (dad was an employee and I was born in state)-High Match
Boston U- Match
U of Kansas (safety)

If you can break 2200 (considering you probably have ~3.9UW), I believe your low reaches will become slightly high matches and Yale will be a significant possiblity. Pray that your SAT II’s are good. GL.

I chanced you so you should chance me:

At a recent UVA info session the admissions officer said that a legacy (which she specifically said included graduate schools) would be counted as in state rather than out of state. Didn’t make any sense to me, but if true would help.

cool thanks guys

umm if u need more matches/safties consider schools like U Delaware, U Miami, idk there is a good search engine on collegeboard and also at princetonreview.com
