124 days until decision letters come. Be a dear and let me know if I’ve got a chance?

The college application process is a test of emotional strength. Forget the small fortune on postage and envelopes I’ve spent in the past two months applying, all I want to know is if I have a chance at any of these schools or if I’m better off finding a tear in the space-time continuum. Don’t worry, I’ll return the favor.

Colleges of order of preference

 1. Williams College
 2. Swarthmore College
 3. University of Virginia (Legacy: mother and father each have bachelor and master degrees from UVa., also nominated for Jefferson Scholars 2010—does this have any impact?)
 4. Gettysburg College
 5. Muhlenberg College
 6. The College of New Jersey

My biggest concern is athletics. I never played any sports in high school and now I’m worried that will negatively impact my chances.

Good luck to the rest of you applying this year!!

Swarthmore-low reach
Virginia-low match
Muhlenberg-match

Your grades help mitigate the non-athletic aspect. That only really comes into play at the uppermost levels (Ivys)

Williams College: Low Reach

Swarthmore College: Low Reach

University of Virginia: Match

Gettysburg College: In

Muhlenberg College: In

The College of New Jersey: Match/High Match (though coming from New Jersey, my opinion might be skewed for this one)

I wouldn’t worry about the lack of athletics, you seem to have made up for it with your other extracurriculars. Since you’re applying to a lot of liberal arts schools, your essays will also have a large impact in their decisions.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/817081-chance-ucla-michigan-etc-will-chance-back.html

1st of all, athletics have little-no impact on your application, especially with the liberal arts schools you’re applying to, which will focus more on EC’s/essays. Your GPA/transcript is strong, SAT’s are great, and EC’s are stellar. Here are my chances:

Williams College: Reasonable-BIG Reach (about 30% shot for both… still apply though; understandably, 2 of the best LAC’s in the country)

Swarthmore College: Reasonable-BIG Reach

University of Virginia: Match (the double legacy definitely helps)

Gettysburg College: In

Muhlenberg College: In

The College of New Jersey: In

Hope this helps!! Plz Chance me back!! (2.0 thread)
