some questions:
how important are the essays? and what should i focus on, for example exeter’s: topic important to you…is a process/descriptive essay ok? such as writing about the science fair…?
btw, i’m applying late due to family emergency, that’s why i have to go to bs senior yr

also, what are the possible neg./pos. effects for my college admissions chances b/c of this change in senior yr?

you are a very strong candidate. There are kids move to different school at their senior and still doing good at college admissions. Don’t worry !

But what do you mean you are applying late? Have you send all the application for 2008 yet ? Or you just planning to apply for 2009 ?

I agree with march10success2 that you are a very strong candidate. However, admissions for 12th grade are very competitive. Good Luck!

I mean I haven’t sent my application materials yet (I sent the preliminary stuff but not all the required things)…because I didn’t know I’d be applying to boarding schools until a few days ago

Thanks for the responses!

The first thing I would do is talk to those schools about the late application if you have not already. Those are all highly competitive schools with none less competitive one in the mix and they usually have a pretty strict deadline. You might want to look at ones with rolling admissions as well.

you have a very slim to no chance of getting in, to be honest (regardless of your stats). They already have their class of 2009 and popping in another kid for just one year would be pointless to them. oh and if your applying for FA then it’s out of the question. also if you are applying to very competitive school like exeter, that will slim your chances as well. just trying to be honest here.

thanks again!
yes, i did check/talk to the schools, some of them have late ap instructions on their sites, and others i emailed

Generally, shcs accept late applications only if there are openings after the first-round admissions(March 10 notification). Also, many shcs state that they accept applications for 9-11 and PG - -not grade 12. I’m sure there exceptions, but it’s certainly an uphill battle at this point.

sorry, what’s shcs?

I think she means schools, but it is difficult to read her posts, with all the odd abbreviations. Foolishpleasure, if you could please spell out the words, it would be appreciated! :)

does anyone know of schools with strong music programs besides choate and hotchkiss/which schools like music credentials??

and are there more opinions on my chances?

thanks!

Walnut Hill in Boston. But I’m not sure about their academic program. They are a lot international students, all are very advanced musician. Chen their website.

ah yes, I have some friends there, but I checked and I don’t think they have AP courses at all…but thanks for the suggestion!

al612, did you send any of your music work to them?

yes, I sent a CD with 2-3 pieces (some schools got ones with 2 and some with 3 because I didn’t have enough in such a hurry)

Good luck to you ! I hope you will find the right boarding school for you!

How about interview? Did you do phone interview ?

actually, both Choate and Hotchkiss waived my interview. Andover told me to ask my counselor to interview me, and Deerfield and Exeter haven’t decided yet

wow, these schools asked your counselor, they must have taken interest in you, all of my schools waived me not taking the SSAT and took my ISEE scores. I hope i got in!

al612, when you counselor will do the interview? If you don’t mind, share with us about the experience. That must be interesting.
