Hey, I was just wondering if i should bother taking the SAT I for a 4th time since my best composite is a 1390 (740m, 650v). My goal was a 1400 and am planning to apply to some competitive colleges so I was wondering if taking it a 4th time makes me look desperate. Also I would like to know my chances at the following schools as well as how strong they are in poly sci/economics?:

University of Miami (FL)

University of Florida

Georgetown University

College of William and Mary

Washington University (St.Louis)

Cornell University

Indiana University- Bloomington

University of Virginia

Good not great EC’s/no sports
Great community service working with disabled children (700+ hours)
work experiance
good essays not great

i am also in the same boat-- but a 1440. like you, gpa is fine… i already sent my score report, so i’m just gonna take it next week and if i do better, great and i’ll send a new one. if not, no one will see it

if you are in state, UM and UF are definite. If you are in state, I hear you can get into UF with a <1200 SAT as long as you have a strong GPA.

sorry to say but, you dont have a chance at many like UVA and Cornel… they emphasis well rounded students and prefer a ground breaking/awesome EC than an awesome EC.

just apply anyway, take hte december or january SAT, but send your score report before you do… if you go up significantly… then send our your new scores… i mean a 1400=1390 for the most part, they wont reject you for 1390

I’m applying to UVA with a 1430, good ec’s, not as high of GPA. I’m not expecting to get in, but I think I definately have a shot. If you get in, be sure to rub it in some of these people’s faces who say you can’t get in. It is a reach though. As far as good econ programs, they all are strong. UVA, Cornell, Georgetown, Wash U are all stretches, but you are at least competitive. Make sure your essays are dynamite. The other ones should be very manageable.
