very nervous

@confusedonhades

UWC is a group of twelve international boarding schools,
Funded by Queens, attended by Kings, and other wearers of jewels:
Queens Noor, Sonja, and Beatrix, and the Prince of Orange, respectively.
And the admissions committees choose students very selectively!
For 2013-2014 year six hundred Americans applied
And in February, five hundred cried,
When interviews they did not get!
But of the one hundred who didn’t throw a sorrowful fit,
Just ten quintets will be selected for a spot
At a school that is the world’s greatest educational melting pot.

Okay, that is my five-minute attempt at a poem explaining what it is.
Basically, both the schools I applied to have 8% acceptance rates. Great.

At least I have a 50% chance at UWC now.

I don’t feel good about Exeter, but still nervous— dammit! Even if I get into Exeter, my family probably won’t get any financial aid, whereas UWC is completely free and even pays full tuition at virtually any American university.

@NikDangles How did you convince your teachers to complete so many recommendations?

haha it wasn’t easy and some of them ended up turning them in late. Luckily 6 of them were all on the same site (gatewaytoprep) @ameripen

Wow. I was scared about asking them for two. Thought about applying to Groton, but didn’t want to give a third recommendation. Good on you.

@Ameripen love the poem! UWC sounds amazing I’m surprised it didn’t come on my radar. Where are these schools located?
@NikDangles wow. My math teacher was upset just completing 4 because my mom wouldn’t do the common app. You must have some great teachers!

@confusedonhades I know! I would have expected to have heard about them earlier. It may be because they are not discussed in the Prep Schools forum, but rather in Study Abroad for some reason. The first time I thought about applying to a boarding school (when I was in the eighth grade), I never heard about it once. This summer, a few of my friends from the Pacific region suggested I look at it.

Netherlands
Bosnia and Herzegovina
USA
Canada
Wales
Swaziland
Singapore
Hong Kong
Costa Rica
Italy
Norway
India

I’m mainly interested in the USA, Canada, Wales, and Singapore, though this may change before I officially submit my preferences.

the schools in the U.S., Wales, and Italy are located in actual castles. Incredible campuses.
