<p>I am seriously considering George Washington. I want to go into International Relations. Georgetown is my first choice but I think my stats aren’t quite up to their standards. I absolutely love DC and can see myself there for 4 years.</p>

<p>So what’s stopping me? THE MONEY.</p>

<p>How do people afford $50,000 a year? Over 4 years, that will cost a lot more than the house I’m living in! My family’s income (divorced parents…so not sure how that would work) couldn’t get me much need-based. We’re most definitely not rich by any means, but we’re not struggling so much that I could get much money. I just don’t get how in the world I could ever afford this…it seems almost like I shouldn’t even bother trying.</p>

<p>The middle-class get screwed in this aspect. Not poor enough for need-based but not rich enough for out-of-pocket tuition…</p>

<p>Parent loans, student loans, student part time work or state universities.</p>

<p>DS loved GW when we visited there but decided not to apply because of the cost - we decided it was not worth borrowing to go there</p>

<p>GW does have an excellent financial aid department though - and, in most cases, they are willing to work with you. Also, if you do not receive any merit aid upon entrance, GW offeres 12K per semester scholarships to student who maintain above a 3.8 or those who are heavily involved in important ECs.</p>

<p>At GW commencement in the Ellipse, my brother kindly said to my father, “I really don’t think that education was worth $200,000.” You should have seen the look in my Dad’s face. Enough said.</p>
