1470 to 1500+ in 1 week doable?

When is your next SAT scheduled?

June 7th.

Have you already been prepping? Or are you planning to do all of your prep this week?

You are looking at 30 points, and anything is possible.

One of my kids increased their SAT score by well over 300 points. The other didn’t increase it by a single point.

Aren’t there other administrations of this test in early fall?

I am currently a junior, and dont want to take it in senior year.

Well then…just do the best you can. But there is an SAT option in the fall.

What were the nature of the questions you missed in the reading and writing section? How many were careless errors vs passages that you just could not reason through, how much were in editing type mistakes? Avoiding careless errors is relatively easy. Bearing down on grammar rules is also doable in a short period. The ability to comprehend complex ideas and passages is much harder to drill in a short period.

Of course one can increase an SAT score by 30 points in one week in your situation.

Hi Thuper1, I just cancelled the June SAT, and scheduled for August. Is this enough time to get above 1500, preferably 1530+?

I think this gives you more time to prepare. Look at Kahn Academy for SAT prep…free.

If you don’t already have practice tests…get some! These folks probably can give you some guidance.

Use Erica Melzer’s books for EBRW then work consistently through your errors. You should be able to recognize the “type” of questions and do lots and lots of them, until you can complete 5 in a row 1) without a mistake 2) quickly.
Read every day - whatever you like, it just has to be every day. Picking something you like will actually help you with consistency and the more you read the faster you read and the better you get at understanding what you’re reading (implicit, irony, character growth, etc).

No one can answer your question about what improvement you might be able to make. Have you done all of the digital SAT practice tests on Bluebook, under strict time conditions?

Are you (or is it an option) to work with a tutor?

I think the most that troubles me are like the old time passages like poems or stuff generally from shakepeare’s time

Good evening @thumper1 and @MYOS1634 ,
I hope you are doing well. I remember our conversation from May and have found myself in another pothole. Throughout this summer, I completely forgot about the SAT and didn’t pay much attention to it. I had scheduled for the one in August, but am inclined to cancel this and move it to September 13th, giving me effectively 1 month and a week to reach my desired goal of 1500+ for many desired programs. I wanted to see your viewpoint on this and any advice you could give to me. I was under the impression that September would be too late for a senior SAT but by reading online and looking at due dates, I see it isn’t as bad as I thought. Thank you very much for your time and consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.

I believe the September test date is fine for regular decision applicants.

But a question…if you “completely forgot about the SAT” have you been prepping as suggested above?

@MYOS1634

You were supposed to prep from June on. You already cancelled the June session because you didn’t study enough for that date. Two months later, sounds like you are in the same spot. It’s okay to take the test in September, have the results sent directly to your ED choice, your flagship, and your EA safeties, but odds are your 1500 isn’t going to materialize since you “completely forgot” about it over two months. Study, do your best, but increase the number of safeties.

Is memorizing vocab words worth doing?

Did you buy the books listed upthread? Have you been doing the exercises in these books?

Yes I have already completed Erica Meltzer’s.

Ok, so memorize what’s recommended there. But vocabulary lists are no longer part of the 21st century SAT so you have to be strategic.
