And here is another one of your well wishers. I wish you all the best. You will most certainly get in. My prayers are with you!
:)

I don’t know how the GED works, if you have to take a class first, etc., or how long it takes. If it’s just a matter of taking the test, though, I’d think that’s no problem.

Wow you hate math and get an 800 in IIc. Dude you’re IN. If princeton doesn’t take you, I’ll throw up. Good luck!! :)

All of the top schools, and Ivies like Princeton in particular, are very interested in people like you who are able to overcome tremendous obstacles. I think you definitely have a good chance to get in, and I wish you all the best!

You have to be at least sixteen, but…

“If you are eligible, you can earn a Certificate of Proficiency by passing the California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE). The CHSPE consists of two sections: an English-language Arts section and a Mathematics section. If you pass the examination, the California State Board of Education will award you a Certificate of Proficiency, which by state law is equivalent to a high school diploma.”

That solves Princeton’s HS diploma problem…

Hey, ishmael.

I live in Southern California and have a pretty good computer which I rarely use, want it? Send me a Private Message when/if you ever get a chance.

yay for college confidential (and mzlover3)! you guys never cease to amaze me–the innate generosity of this place is just awesome. sorry if it sounds mushy :D

Princeton does NOT require a high school diploma, and says so in its Common Data Set filing each year. This is true of most of the most highly selective schools: they all explicitly say that a high school diploma is not required for admission.

But yet, if I fail to obtain a high school diploma by the end of the school year, my admission gets rescinded…

Prettyfish, does it say that in your admission letter? That would only mean, I think, that if you bomb out of your current program (not very likely, methinks), that your admission would be rescinded. But if one were in a program that was challenging, but didn’t offer a diploma (which appears to be the OP’s situation, and is the situation of some Princeton applicants every year), then there is no problem. Searching Common Data Set filings posted on the Web will show that every top school–I have no exceptions at all–announces that a high school dipoma is not required for admission.

Ishmael, I sincerely hope you get in and I would be shocked if Princeton rejects you.

Taken from Usnews under Princeton University:

Wow. CC (and the princeton forum in particular) is AMAZING!!! kudos, MzLover.

i know, seriously…CC + pton = amazing

tokenadult, I hear from Stanford’s CDS that they require an HS diploma. am i mistaken?

Hmm, according to

http://www.stanford.edu/home/statistics/

it looks like Stanford requires a diploma (a GED being an accepted form of diploma). I wonder why I didn’t note that the last time I was browsing common data set info.

Yeah, one of the 4 stipulations that was on the card I signed accepting admission was that I had to get a diploma.

But since that doesn’t appear to be a universal case, super good luck Ishmael! There doesn’t seem to be anything that can get in your way.

the first thing you should do is take the GED. <a href=“Evaluations, Credits, and Transcripts”>Evaluations, Credits, and Transcripts;
maybe make a list of books that you’ve read and learned from (as much as you can remember) so that they have an idea of what you’ve been studying from?

does anyone still have ishmael’s email? he posted it here, but i guess he or the moderator deleted his post. anyone wanna PM it to me? it was something about calc and history…

I wish I had copied it down. It had the words “yes” and “no” I know that, and it was either from yahoo or hotmail.

You know, re-reading his post, I can’t help thinking of Ronald Dahl’s “Matilda.” It entertained me in my younger years, but I never would have thought people like the title character actually existed. Boy was I wrong!

its was something like
yesmatnohis <> yesmathnohis
one of the two
hotmail <> yahoo

So we have 4 possible combinations, anyone remember the exact one??

yayforcalcnohis???

yahoo??

we really should ask a mod to recover the deleted post before it’s too late…just this once…

MzLover: yeah i know what you mean about matilda
