15 year old poor, white, male applying to pton-automatic reject?

Hey, some background on me::

Unlike most white males, I’m poor, and “disadvantaged.” So yeah, my dad got my mom pregnant in tenth grade, so he left us. My mom is in jail for selling drugs. I’ve been living with aunt and her handy man husband on welfare my entire life, and she told me that I had to improve, so that’s what I did. I’ve spent most of my life at the public library (“homeschooled”) and this is what I have to show for it::

SAT:: 1520-800 verbal, 720 math (I hate math!!!)
SAT II: 800 X 8 (Writing, Literature, US, World, Bio E, Math IIC, Spanish, French)
I can’t afford/high schools around here don’t provide their students with APs so scheduling conflicts too:(
I want to major in English

Extra-curricular activities:: reading? :(

Transcript: WHAT TRANSCRIPT?!?!
Interview: at Barnes & Noble with a very nice old man…we didn’t really talk about princeton…it was more like a conversation between two complete strangers who knew what they were talking about…mostly politics…then literature…he really liked the fact that I read so much, he bought me two books
Recs: from two old library ladies…i thought they were good…
Essays: some say stupid…some say genius…#1 is an imaginary (magical) encounter with albus dumbledore in my dreams…2# is a nostalgic poem about not having a normal childhood…3# was me thinking about human life in general while waiting for the bus to visit my mom…all very “literary”…is that a “hook”? I mean, really, I’ve spent my entire life working with words it’s everything I have, and I hate to sound like a pompous person, but really, I’ve read a lot, and I know my writing ranks right up there with the best of the best…

I live in a horrible area of California, like, horrible horrible.

What am I to do?!?!?! Should I like try to enroll in regular high school? I applied to a whole bunch of other places, too. I’m sure I can at least get into a liberal arts college, but I really like pton.

Oh yeah, I’m not a liability, I have family in every town where I applied, so I could commute.

so yeah, this is me. any comments? laughs? chuckles? snickers?

no, this is not a joke

i know most of the posters here are on the east coast, so somebody pleeeeeeeeeeeease help me from the west. this isn’t my computer (i don’t have one) and i have to get off of it soon.

hi there

wow. are you considering the class of 09 or 10 application season? if it’s 09…it’s a little late to apply. but considering everything, even if you are a “senior,” i’m tempted to advise you to call princeton anyway. what exactly are you looking for–chances, advice?

i’ll post this quickly to let you know that i’m here, then continue

if you’re considering the class of 2010, focus on your essays. try to make the adcom reader experience, vicariously through you, what it meant for you to do the things you did. your standardized test scores are off the charts (did you apply for presidential scholar stuff (www.ed.gov/programs/psp)? you have a darned good shot of getting it if you did, unfortunately for me :D) and there is absolutely no question here that you soak up knowledge for its own sake. if you’re '10, you may wanna check with princeton if they’ll accept the (soon-to-be) old SAT I

i’d say you have a pretty good shot

btw, have you ever read daniel quinn’s ishmael?

Someone- where in the Bay do you live?

Thanks for replying.

No, I have no awards, and yes I have read the book (love it.) If I was in school, I think I’d be a sophomore.

With this post, I’m mainly trying to find out if anybody on here knows of a case like mine. Or just a fellow homeschooler would be great.

i’ll put you in touch with a good friend of mine. homeschooled, bright, 1560 on sats in 7th grade, etc.

feel free to keep posting here if there’s anything else you need of us. i’m still a little unclear whether you were looking for chances or general advice…

why did u take 8 SATII’s?

To prove his competence in various subjects, I imagine.

ishmael, you are so IN.

I look forwards to the day when you win the Nobel.

Your chances are pretty good, and it seems like you already knew that because of your second post on this thread.

if what you’re saying is true, im REALLY impressed

dude - dont worry. Princeton offers great financial aid. If you will just manage to get in you’ll be fine. Your stats are really good. I really wish you luck. Go for it :)

definitely. we’re all wowed over here :D

ummm…can i say wow? if i were in ur situation id probably be like i have no idea :-/ people like u seriously inspire me  i hope u get in! also - princeton is uber generous with aid so u will probably get something close to a full ride since ur on wellfare…wow…just wow amazing scores =) i dun think u would need to have awards/ECs in ur situation. do u happen to work or anything?

please update us on ur decision!

(dont commute u will lose the entire college feel! u will get generous aid i guarantee u =D)

I just wanted to say i am so impressed with how youve overcome all those obstacles. More power to you man, keep reading, keep teaching yourself. You know whats hilarious, is that even ith all your disadvantages, you still manage to blow most kids’ SAT scores out of the water (8 800s? RIDICULOUS!!!). Youre a living testament to the value of hard work and dedication - and you truly seem to love to learn. If I end up at Princeton, I definitley want to meet you haha. Alright hopefully you get to a computer soon - we’re all rootin for u here. Peace.

and btw dont write on ur app that you hate math :)

Were you officially homeschooled or just didn’t go to high school? Princeton requires a high school diploma, as far as I’ve heard, and if you are officially homeschooled - i.e. through an accredited institution - then you actually /do/ have transcripts, and grades, etc. If you just didn’t go to high school, I don’t know if Princeton is even in a position to be able to consider you for admission, based on their policies, and your lack of diploma/GED.

If he’s applying for ‘10 and needs the diploma/GED, he should be able to take that test and ACE it no prob right? (feel free to correct anything i’ve said… dont’ know much about the GEd)

I’d hope you’d get in. That being said, I also think that you will get in.
