Hi there my name is Sie I’m 17, I graduated school with a 3.8 out of 4.0 GPA. Yesterday I bought an act prep course called Benchprep and need to know if it’s any good, but around June this year I took the act for the first time without studying and scored a 15C (Results: 14E, 14M 18R 14S , ( 11, combined English plus Writing)). I was very disappointed because I thought I knew alot of the stuff but I didn’t. I want to try to raise my score to about 32C+ in 5months or aleast before next summer. Do I need to take ACT+ Writing? Got any tips for me? I believe I can do it and am willing to put in rigorous study time. Please have faith in me, I believe I can do it I just need the right guidance.

A 15 on the ACT is equivalent to 1110 on the SAT, the average ACT score is a 21 or around 1500 on the SAT. With 5 months of studying, you can pinpoint the areas you are having trouble with and you can also take numerous practice problems and learn how to answer questions. Your goal should be practical, first above the average score, and then you can try to work your way into the 30s.

Don’t bother with the ACT writing. More money for a greedy company.

If you really want to raise your score, learn the test and not the material. Learn strategies. I won’t say it’s impossible, but 17 points is a really big increase. You’ll have to work hard.

I recommend, above all else, taking full practice tests under timed conditions. A big part of the test is fatigue and time - you get tired, can’t focus, and end up running out of time. But I can tell you firsthand that emulating the test conditions as much as possible helps a lot more than you might think at first. You won’t get as tired and will finish on time, or at least finish more than you did had you not prepared.

Good luck, brave warrior
