I wouldn’t worry about the math section. It should be the same (not sure difficulty wise as that probably varies).

I would say that you could study for the 2400 with the 1600 test, but as long as you have a strong background in precalculus math you should be fine.

Can anyone explain to me why the SAT Math Curve is so much harsher than the reading curve. Is it because it has easier questions? Why not make them harder so that the curve doesn’t penalize so much?

Technically speaking, CB added questions that it considers “Algebra 2” to the math section, when they converted from the CR + M test to the CR + M + W test. So, there are likely to be some questions that are covered in the prep books for the new test, but not contained in the prep books for the older test.

I agree with you, HiPeople, it would be good if they added some harder questions to the math section, because it would reduce the impact of one careless error.

@QuantMech: On May SAT, the questions were apparently harder, so I was allowed one error. But I really hope they put AIME level questions on there to create a sick curve.

@ Bell Curves: There is no way that an AIME question could be answered in the multiple choice section. It’s definitely possible for the 4-blank somewhat FR section though XD
Maybe stick to AMC10/12 level questions ;D
