<p>or is an expected number based on their 68% yield estimation. it is very rare they they take less than double digits from the waitlist. i’ll post the stats from 2000-04, it seems like the class size fluctuates quite a bit from year to year and
the waitlist numbers are unpredicable. </p>

<p>That number was as given to the Faculty Senate by the Admissions dean on April 20. Obviously it could vary a bit by May 1, and a bit more with possible melt in the weeks thereafter due to waitlist action at Stanford and elsewhere.</p>

<p>The quote from Shaw:</p>

<p>“The story about applications. We have had this year 22,332 applicants to Stanford. We selected 852 students through early admission, and 1578 during the regular cycling. The class size is going to be 1657. We’re also working towards the admissions of 60 transfer students into later years…”</p>

<p>so the 1657 is more of a goal? not how many commitments they have already received?</p>

<p>I assume it is a very close projection based on commitments received 10 days before the deadline.</p>
