17" Macbook Pro a good idea?

In terms of portability around campus. I’m planning of getting an upgraded Macbook Pro, and the 17’’ has more value for upgrades compared to a 15" 2GHz.

17" might be too big. See if you can fit it in a backpack. I bought a 12" powerbook for lightweight and portability, and i’d buy it again in an instant.

get something smaller and more portable. wait until they redesign the iBook. it should be about 13" and should come out in the next month or so.

I’m waiting on the successor to the 12 inch powerbook.

wait until Apple releases a two button trackpad… so close to being the perfect laptop  (osx+bootcamp+winxp… “just in case I need it”)

12" kinda blows with the 1024x768 resolution. I am hoping the 13" Macbook will have a higher res than typical widescreen 1280x768 subnotebook…

Whack,

Apple will never support Bootcamp and Apple will never release a two button trackpad. Why would you run Windows if Mac OS X is so much better? If you want to use Windows get a Dell.

I just hope that if a smaller MacBook does come out, it doesn’t have integrated video memory. I would kill if it did.

Whack?

Never support bootcamp? Not only did Apple make bootcamp… they are integrating it into the next version of OS X.

Never release a two button trackpad? Uh, ok, I will just chalk that up with the “Apple will never release a multi-button mouse” claim .

And, Christ. Come on. The “blah blah blah, get a Dell” argument is such a dud. Mac OS X is better. But some things are just plain not available or done better on Windows. Having the option… read: the option, to dual boot is SUCH an advantage that cannot be gained from any other computer. Perfect for schools… you never know what app you may want or need.

Dude,

BootCamp:
They are integrating it into Mac OS X. You are absolutely correct. But let’s say you call and say I have a problem with BootCamp. Apple will not be able to help you because you are installing another OS. Which Apple doesn’t support. Sure they will fix all the bugs but its up to you to run it and if something doesn’t work in Windows , tough luck. 10.5 Leopard is a going to be a great OS but not because it could boot Windows, because being a Mac User, I couldn’t care about Windows.Mac OS X Leopard will continue the cycle of great OS releases. It is not Apple’s job to make you run Windows smooth.

Two Button Trackpad:
The Mighty Mouse is not a two button. When you first connect a mighty mouse the right and left click are the same. On a regular PC mouse you can click the right side while having your finger on the left. This is not the true with mighty mouse. The mighty mouse requires you to lift your finger in order to use the other side. Seriously I mean you want Windows , You want a two button trackpad, why not settle for a Windows machine? Mac OS X can do more than Windows.

Think about it this way. Apple doesn’t sell Mac OS X that would work on a regular Dell Machine or any x86 Machine. What sells the OS ? The hardware!! 93%-95% of all users are Windows users. If you keep changing things to complement Windows Users, more and more people will just buy a Mac because it looks good. I’ve seen it happen trust me. “I just want an iMac to run Windows , ok but Mac OS X is better. Yeah but I’m used to Windows.” Thank heaven that you cannot delete Mac OS X off your hard drive or it would be a mess.

Yes Windows handles viruses a lot better  Tell me what you are planning to do that you cannot do on Mac OS X and I will see if there is a way to do it on Mac OS X. There are CAD programs , Photoshop, 3D modeling programs, Video Editing Programs, Microsoft Office. I mean yeah Windows has a lot more software but how many of the programs that are released , are really that good ?

P.S. What do I know , I just work for Apple ;)

wow, you work for Apple… this explains a lot

BootCamp: I never said they would support windows. Why the hell would they support windows? And my God, as expected (see first comment), you somehow turned this into a “macs are better” issue. If you didn’t notice, I am in favor of macs and apple. You are arguing against a person that supports apple and is happy that they have added functionality to their hardware.

Two Button trackpad: ok buddy “not two button” – whatever. Again, did I ever say I wanted a windows machine? I understand you are a fanboy… but damn… I am not making an argument AGAINST apple. Relax.

Your “think about it this way” argument… where the hell did that come from? stop getting so worked up and read my post.

Max, you are obviously involved emotionally with apple and are not even making sense (in commenting on my post). You are making a case against something that isn’t even there.

Just because you work at an Apple Store, does not mean anything. Please. I am not going to post anymore, because you are a strong Mac Fanboy and will get overworked about everything anyone ever says about apple.

You win. Biaxident get a mac today.

P.S. I am a part owner of apple.

I’m not attacking attacking you. I’m just explaining somethings. Fanboy, nah I was using Windows yesterday to play Half Life 2 :D. I am just telling you that BootCamp is really not that dandy.

That’s just like saying just because you work for admissions , doesn’t mean anything in regard to admissions.

:) relax , I’m just pushing your buttons. I was just giving some information.

Biaxident, the 17" is nice but I mean it’s huge. I would recommend a 15"

Wanna look stylish? get an apple.
Want a comp you’ll know how to use (assuming you’re new to apples) get any 15" dual-core windows notebook. I’d recommend dell b/c of the insane coupons and warranty.

I personally think the Dell coupons and, more importantly, the WARRANTY, are there for a reason. The last Dell I used didn’t even make it past its first year without a rendezvous with the repair shop, and I’m no comp abuser.

17" MacBook Pro = good idea.

It won’t be too big, and you won’t take it to class as much as you plan to right now. Great machine, if you’re willing to shell out the cash for it.
