<p>Other news accounts refer to excessive alcohol use, recounted on her blog. Apparently, the girl had been drinking at a club and then at a party at the apartment from which she fell.</p>
<p>The story on the Today Show made the girl sound like quite the “experienced” drinker. My friend’s D goes to a large private HS. When she was a freshman, my friend talked to her about alcohol. The D said she wasn’t drinking yet, but to expect it by her junior year because by then “everyone” drinks.</p>
<p>She got into the club using a fake Brazilian ID. She had posted a picture of herself holding a champagne flute in the VIP section of the same club on her blog prevously. Thus, this wasn’t her first visit. Accoriding to Metro, she had “blogged about her drinking escapades and penchant for pill popping.” </p>
<p>While this is certainly a tragedy, it doesn’t sound as if this was a case of a new freshman having too much to drink for the first time.</p>
<p>What a crappy situation for the club. Fake ID’s are so good now that they can sometimes be impossible to detect. I strongly believe that club owners and bouncers should not be held responsible for the behavior of those who use fake ID’s and then do stupid things afterwards, unless the ID’s are blatantly false.</p>
<p>This reminds me of a thread started by a worried parent recently. Her D was living the high life at clubs in NYC, and underage. Pretty young girls can always get into places where they really shouldn’t be, unfortunately.</p>
<p>As much I hope my son does not drink in college (addiction has been a terrible problem in our families), I always tell him to never drive or get in a car being driven by someone who is drinking. Do not walk alone. Never got out on balcony or climb a wall or go anyplace that a fall could happen. Lastly, stay the heck out of the water, any water.</p>
