So I just took my second SAT and kinda messed up:

M: 730 (got 800 first time)
CR: 600
W: 610 (8 essay)

I was hoping for 800-650-650=2100

I know this isn’t the best SAT scores… but I just hope my unique background and extra-curricular will pull me through (e.g. chief-in-editor of a magazine, worked at major internet companies, wrote a book etc)

What should I aim for if my goal is to get into Stanford or Wharton? BTW, I’m an international student

if your background is as unique as you say it is then that is what is going to really make a difference, but with that said especially as an international student the competition is insanely tough, as they will probably only take one person from your whole country. even for a student from america aiming for those schools the sat score needs to be much higher to hit the base for those schools. sat scores are NOT everything, but a 1940 most likely will not get you into stanford/wharton.

Stanford has a knack for valuing random EC’s more than GPA and test scores.

Wharton… mostly known for well… lot’s of affirmative action, in which diversity would help you.

Locally, the general standard is a 2100 or higher for even a chance though.

Stanford '08-09

25th% 75th %

CR 650 760
M 680 780
W 670 760

Stanford superscores, don’t they? Which means you’ve got a 2010.

But yeah, that’s probably still really low, especially if you’re an international student.
