1980 SAT. First time- good or bad?

I really don’t know whether this score is considered a good or not-so-good one, as I’ve never taken the SAT. I was aiming up in this range (2000) and ultimately want a 2200+ with Score Choice and everything. Thanks in advance!

I certainly wouldn’t call that bad, but it really all depends on your personal goals. I’ve met people upset with scores in the 2300s. An improvement of 200 points is pretty big, but certainly doable, especially if you have a good sense of what you need to work on for next time. Good luck!

Of course it depends on what colleges you’re applying to, but 1980 is solid! 200 points for your next time is a big leap but not impossible with some prep.

you can definitely improve with some prep. good luck!

it’s not bad for a first time score. going up 200 points is definitely doable, especially if you take a summer prep class-- that helped me a ton. (not to advertise or anything…)

Depends on the school you’d like. For the record, I took the SAT first time my junior year and got a 1990 with very little studying. I took it again in October with even less studying and got a 2150. With a bit of studying it is manageable.

150 point boost between 1 month without much effort!

You can certainly improve on your next testing. A significant portion of your score comes from how acquainted you were with the test. You’ll be much better prepared no matter what come next time. Actually study — and there’s no telling how much you’ll improve.

Definitely, you’ll do better. I started, my junior year at a little below a 1900. this October, with minimal prep I just made a 2050, I’m going one more time in December or Jan to make a 2150 or so and I’m stopping there.

Thanks everybody! :)
