britbrat - congrats on your son’s selection to compete for what looks like quite a prestigious award :D. Most of the organizations that are participating are known for putting on extremely high quality theatre productions, and so I think it is a huge honor to be chosen.

I am excited about the buzz that all this hopefully will create (I am all for promoting the arts), and may be next year even more theatres may participate, although I am sure that number of high schools, and legitimacy of the organization will come into play, and I don’t think that every company that gives out “local theatre awards” will qualify.

One thing I am confused about though is that the winner will receive a scholarship to NYU, as I think most kids have already committed to the college they will be going to in the fall, and I am not sure that that makes a whole lot of sense then, but may be I am not understanding it correctly :).

Congrats, and BAL wishes to purple9’s S as well!
