1st holiday away from home

Wifey & kids are Jewish and today at sundown marks the Jewish New Year. We always enjoy dinner with friends and neighbors. The Jews are fun, they have lots of holidays with food and wine. I’m hoping someone can rig some kind of facetime video chat. Our friend’s daughter did that last year and it was heartwarming.

We google video chatted our son for his first seder away from home - set the laptop on a tall chair at the end of the table. He could see all of us and we could all see him. He had his own matzah, eggs, etc.and joined in the reading of the Hagaddah. It was fun one time but he declined repeating it.

While it’s sweet that your kids are joining you virtually, my kids have (sporadically) gone to Hillel for services, Seders, etc and honestly I’d rather them do that and make connections than FaceTime with us.

We wound up just exchanging photos by text, and eventually called and used speaker phone to have a brief conversation passing the phone around the table. I encouraged him to seek out the school’s Hillel but I don’t think he has.
