How likely is it to get my first housing choice?

I really want to live in Bobb or McCulloch. I’m making sure that I pick a roommate who wants the same because I’m told that will increase my chances.

However, I’ve heard that it’s really unlikely for most people to get their first choices. What is the truth behind all of this?

Oh god just rank them.

Typically you will get one of the first two choices

My son also agrees you usually get one of the first two or three choices, except if you have a SMALL residential themed college anywhere on your list – because those are not popular, even if you have one as your last choice, you’ll likely get it. The larger non-themed res colleges (Shepard, Willard, etc.) are popular. My son loved Shepard – both all the social activities and proximity to most of his classes and restaurants.

My son is a sophomore and got his third choice as a freshman.
