2.0 GPA, looking to get into a decent college in Maine, very worried! (Update)

My academic career has been a mixed bag. During my Freshman year, I took all honors classes. I got a C+ and then an A in Honors English. This was at my old school, with a different grading system, so I wish that first grade was higher(the number was 83, it would be a B here). World History Accelerated API should have dropped, but I didn’t, so I failed initially, but did better and got a C next semester. Honors Algebra was a -C and a C, and Honors Physics was a C and a B. My electives were Comedy in Media and CAD, and I got a A and a B+. Health was a B+. I was in Art Club for a little while, then joined Latin Club, where I got ribbons in vocab and art(I know art was 5th place). I was also in Certamen and went to a couple Latin conventions.

Sophomore year I decided to do half honors classes and half CP.

Art: Both A’s
German: -A, A
CP Bio: B, C
Global Honors(make up for history) Both B’s
Honors English: D, C
CP Geometry: Both B’s
Multimedia: B+
PE 10: B+

I joined anime club that year and got the highest award for German!

Junior year was very stressful. Being praised for my grades in Global, I chose to do AP U.S History. I got a C first semester, but my mental health was awful, so I switched down to CP U.S History in May. But even that didn’t help-I had to make up the work this year. 2 study halls didn’t help either! I’m hoping the makeup will be factored into my GPA soon, my GPA should be higher if it has.
For the rest:

PE 9(Since I didn’t take it freshman year): B
Writing a Graphic Novel: B
CP Algebra: C, C+
Honors English: -C, -D
CP Physics: -C
German: B, C

I did anime club as well and participated in a writing contest. I got an 1120 on my SAT-650 on reading and writing, 470 in math.

Now it’s senior year. I take Graphic Design and Printing at a vocational school, and I love it! But again with the different grading systems! (Same as my old school. Got an 84. First quarter was good, got a 90) Didn’t think my GPA would change so much.
Also-
College Algebra: -B
Senior Topics in Literature: -B
World History(sophomore level): C

So yeah, that’s my mess. I applied to the University of Southern Maine and the University of Maine at Presque Isle, and I’m almost done with my application to UMaine. I want to go to Husson too, but I think my chances are pretty slim. I also applied to the New England Institute of Technology in Rhode Island. What do you think my chances are for those colleges?(I know the last one is open admission). Are there colleges you’d recommend? I think I definitely could have things differently. There were some teacher mistakes(in Multimedia I got a 100 on the final, but it went in as a 10!), but I can’t blame it all on them. I think I can definitely apply myself in college, as long as I concentrate better-I was a really good student in elementary and middle school, and maybe I can redo some Ds.

I think you have a good chance-- Have you considered SMCC in portland in case and then transferring to USM after a year or so?

Thank you!! I have

Well, if your 100 was counted as a 10, you can get that rectified, you know! Input mistakes are made - don’t blame anyone, just state the error and have the change recorded. At this point every little bit will help.
You can also apply to UMaine Farmington and look into community college, either commutable or with residences if none is commutable due to weather/relief.
How did you end up with a C and a D in English, but a 650 on the SAT EBRW?
Did you forget to turn your work in? Skip class? Freeze during tests? Misunderstand the questions or the directions?

I did really good with tests, but I was slow at writing essays. I tend to overthink things. Thank you! I’ll try to do that

Ok, so you’ve identified your weakness. Also called paralyzing perfectionism.
You KNOW you’re good. Like, top 10% in the country good.
Next test, just trust that you know what you’re doing. Contrary to what you’ve always been told, don’t review, don’t revise, don’t go back. Keep going. Write/answer. See what happens in terms of grades.
Ask for a tutor. Explain that, clearly, (sat score as proof) you’re not working at potential and don’t quite know why. So the tutor would help you figure out what you do right and what you do wrong.
SMCC->USM is also another possibility indeed. In fact I’d take that before the RI college.
Have you run the NPC? Are all these colleges affordable?

I haven’t run it, but I applied for a few scholarships and I think we’re applying for financial aid soon. Also, I think I really want to be in Bangor(for now) but I doubt I’ll get into Husson, agreed? I suppose I could go to UMA.

DO run the NPC on EACH college. Most financial aid comes from the colleges themselves and they calculate differently one from the one. Run the NPC on each of them and you’ll see very different results in the “net cost” box!
Send that FAFSA this week! It was supposed to be done in October!!! Check on the websites as you might have missed the application deadline already :frowning:
Even if you get into Husson, it tends to be costly and “I really want to be in Bangor” wouldn’t justify a higher cost than USM or UMaine Orono or Presqu’Ile or Farmington. You could also forfeit your admission to 4-year colleges and attend Eastern Maine CC. I hope you get a choice. BTW, why Bangor, not Portland?

I’m back! I got into Unity and I got my FASFA done. Oh, yeah, and Bangor is close to my family. Do you have any opinions about Unity?

I like the campus! My husband and I are structural engineers and we designed two of the dorms there. I don’t know anything else about the school, though.

Congrats on getting into Unity!!!

All it takes is one acceptance-- and you’ve got it!
