2.3gpa, and 1330 Sat

I’m a senior with an unweighted 2.3 gpa and a weighted 2.4gpa Yes I know my gpa is low. my Sat scores out of 2400 was a 1330 (410 Math-480 Reading-440Writing)My ACT score was a 17 :frowning: I never included my ACT in any of my applications.

I am a volunteer at one of Jacksonville,Florida’s public libraries, and I plan to join the bible book club at my school. I have also Done church work for many many years.

But on my application I only put library volunteer:( I should of put more information/

What colleges do you think I can get into. My friend has a 3.0 gpa with a 1250 sat and got into unf & ju, but she had a 19 ACT. So Why won’t I get in? I applied but I strongly doubt that I will get into either

I applied to unf and Ju, and am still waiting on a response. I can only go to school in Jacksonville because my parents (sigh) don’t want me to go out of town because they think i’m too inexperienced for that. I really don’t want to go to a community College. What can I do, or is there hope for me to get into unf or ju?

Some places that you have a shot at:

Marshall University (you’ll get in automatically if you have a 2.0)
Kentucky State
Clark Atlanta University
Morgan State
University of Wyoming
University of Texas - El Paso
Kent State (could serve as a nice reach)
Youngstown State
Weber State

Before you start thinking about specific colleges and universities, you need to figure out why you have not performed as well as you would like to in high school. Have you had any difficulties that will no longer exist once you are in college? If they will still exist, what accommodations/adaptations are necessary for your success?

There is no point in spending money on a college education if you aren’t quite ready yet to do the work. You want to be able to do your very best, so that you can achieve your goals. Take some time to think through your career goals. Is a college education the only way to achieve them? Can you reach your goals by an alternate route?

If you must complete a college degree in order to enter the career that you want, you need to find a community college, 4-year college, or university that will not only admit you, but will help you develop the study skills necessary to pursue your dream.

Agreed. I have a view that way too many kids start college way too soon. Many, particularly males, would strongly benefit from a two year stint in the military, or doing good work in construction, or church missions, or any solid work experience. Gap years can be very beneficial if planned correctly.

You have skills as a human being. Have you ever had your skillset inventoried? There are some good tests out there to help with that. What do you LIKE to do? Any solid hobbies? You can convert a hobby into a career if you put your mind to it.

I can only go to school in Jacksonville because my parents (sigh) don’t want me to go out of town because they think i’m too inexperienced for that.

If that is your parents’ opinion, then they aren’t likely going to pay for you to go elsewhere. I can understand their feelings. They fear spending thousands of dollars on tuition, fees, room and board only to have you not do well. That’s why they are insisting that you stay local.

Have your parents said how much they’ll spend on your college education? If not, ask.
**
If you don’t know how much your parents will spend, there’s no point to this thread. What good will it do for people to suggest this or that college, if those will cost $25k+ per year, and your parents won’t pay???** Besides, many app deadlines have passed.

I imagine that you’ll have to prove to your parents that you can do MUCH better than a 2.3 GPA. That will likely mean a community college.

If you do well at a CC, maybe your parents pay for you to go elsewhere? Have you asked them how much they’ll pay if you go to a cc first and do well?

BTW…why are your grades so low? Too many distractions? To many fun activities? Forget to do your homework? Lack of studying? What???

My grades were low in 10th and 11th grade because of lack of interest and I didn’t too much care :frowning: But at the end of 11th grade and now that I’m in twelfth I’ve really been trying. My parents sometimes cant believe the grades I’m getting now. Like a B in pre-calculus. I don’t think its about the pay, its just that they don’t believe I am experienced enough to be in another city or even state and then have to deal with college all on my own.
