Hello!!
Right now I have a 2.6 GPA and i’m in my sophomore year. I take all normal classes (Nothing AP) and i’m continuing to do so next year into junior year. Is it possible I could bring my grade (GPA) up to a 3.0? I’ve gotten 2 D’s this marking period the rest A’s and B’s, due to very hard classes and dealing with my parent’s divorce which kind of screwed me over this marking period. I’m not the smartest kid but I volunteer a lot. I’ve been to a missionary trip to Guatemala in order to help out a small camp with children there. I also do “Midnight Run” which is where I go with a group to NYC and donate supplies to the homeless. I’m also a varsity swimmer in my school, which is one of the best teams in Jersey. Please help me out. Do I have a chance at Rutgers or BU? Please responses would be so great im in a lot of stress right now :)

Rutgers or BU? Those don’t look too likely, I’m afraid, unless you’re a good enough swimmer to compete in Division I.

Rutgers hasn’t reported high school GPAs for its current freshmen, but about 75% of them were in the top quarter of their high school class, and 98% were in the top half. My guess is, top quarter of your class is a long way off unless you start earning significantly higher grades, beginning this spring. BU’s numbers for class rank are similar, and BU reports that 99% of their current freshmen had high school GPA above 3.0, 86% had GPA above 3.25, and 68% had GPA above 3.5.

If we assume you have 3 semesters’ worth of grades averaging 2.6 now, you’d need to average about 3.4 over the next 3 semesters, including this spring, in order to average 3.0 by the time you submit college applications in the fall of senior year.

:( Do you think I could at least get into a decent 4 year college, not a bad school but just a normal school?

Are you sure Kean or Montclair State aren’t options?

kekokek,
You sound like a great kid with all the volunteering you do and your passion for swimming. Work on those courses with the D’s, go to your counselor or tutoring center, if there is one at your school, and get those grades up to at least C+/B-. Then you can perhaps focus on schools at which you may be able to swim competitively. Good luck!

Right now i’m just looking at any decent 4 year school that will give me a good education.

Thank you so much I appreciate it
For the D’s I’m pretty sure both of them will move up to a C- (70% Borderline). I’m not sure if I want to swim competitively but hopefully this will increase my chances!

Hi again, keep it up. There are always people who can help. Ask friends, relatives, other parents to help with your tough classes. Find a teacher who cares…it’s amazing what some will do!
