2.7 GPA - Need Help Searching For A College

Hi there. I’m not sure if I am doing this right but this is my first time posting on this forum. Some quick stats: I’m male Hispanic and from Las Vegas NV. I’ll be graduating in the spring of 2016.

So I’m a junior and as of the last two years my gpa is a 2.76. which i know is the not best in the world. My high school is also ranked #1 in Nevada which is like the best quarterback in the worst team of the NFL. I acknowledge that its no excuse for my low grades. I have yet to take the SAT or ACT but i have taken the psat and i got a 165 which kind of gives you an idea of how i will do on the SAT. My grades the last two years are all over the place with some D’s C’s B’s and A’s here and there. Second semester of sophomore year i got all B’s and one C. This year, junior year, is my first year taking an AP class which are AP Spanish and U.S History.I know that I’m going to get a D in APUSH and a B maybe an A if i get a good grade for my semester exam in Spanish but my teachers said that I’m likely to get a 3 in the AP test for U.S History and a 4 maybe a 5, in Spanish. My possible grades for my other classes this semester might be A’s and B’s with a C in Physics.

I plan to go to college for secondary education so i can possibly teach Spanish. The only subjects I’ve ever been good at were Spanish and Math which I’ve mostly had some A’s and B’s consistently. So my question is, what are some possible universities that would MAYBE accept me or are a reach? I would prefer if they were on the west of the Mississippi and non religious/LGBT friendly since i am gay. I was looking into Idaho State University or somewhere that’s in the Oregon, Washington, Montana, Idaho are but I’m also open to other places.

Sorry if it’s kinda long but I’m new to CC and thank you if you reply and help me

GPA isn’t everything, however you should look into maintaining higher grades for the second semester. Hopefully you have a good set of ECs/volunteering and a dazzling essay when you apply. For colleges, look into Central Washington University or Western. You might get in considering the 80% acceptance rate. Good luck.

Look up the teacher credentialing requirements in the state(s) you are considering teaching in, and check how the colleges can help you fulfill the requirements. For example, see http://teachers.nv.gov/ for information on teacher credentialing in Nevada. Both UNLV and UNR have secondary education majors which are intended to be combined with subject matter course work (e.g. Spanish course work for a prospective Spanish teacher, math course work for a prospective math teacher) to prepare for Nevada teacher licensing.

Your budget is very important in terms of determining what colleges are financially realistic. Check with your parents on what they will contribute, and run some net price calculators on college web sites.

Avoid Idaho if you’re gay, and I’m not sure how open to open LGBT relationships on campus Ole Miss is.
UNLV and UNR will likely admit you if you can bring those grades up (try to get mostly As and Bs now on).
What’s your budget?
Have you got your PSAT results back (and/or PLAN)?
I think you’d get into Whittier in California, University of the Pacific, Linfield. Depending on your budget and SAT, Sonoma State in California could be a possibility.
