I’ve always been a B student (in core subjects) but my electives had brought me up. This year, I’m only taking the five core classes… and my GPA is horrible.

AP Gov - B
AP Eng Lit - B
Physics - B (regular, not AP)
Honors Chinese - B
AP Calc - C

therefore I think it adds up to 2.8 GPA. Is that enough to basically ruin my chances everywhere RD?

Senior year isn’t over yet right? And how about soph and junior years?

Well my grades are 90% set. Almost everything is basically done, so I’m sure about the 2.8. And throughout Soph and Junior year, I’ve gotten mostly all B’s in core subjects except A’s in foreign language, but other electives (TA, PE) had brought me above 2.8 GPA.

What are your test scores?

You’ll be fine with a 2.8, dont stress too much

I’ve been accepted to two cal states at the moment

with a 2.5 gpa of all things

I’m also only taking 5 classes and it’s smooth sailing, provided you keep your grades up!

not to mention with those AP classes…managing B’s in the three you’re taking, you’re a shoe in

Ap classes botched my gpa to no end…

insanebadger, my test scores:
SAT I - CR 740, M 730, W 720 (12 essay)
SAT II - 700 Bio E, 710 Math 2

and easauceda, I’m not too sure…I did one cal state, but I’m more worried about the privates/UCs… would it really be ok??

With those test scores, you’ll do just fine in the private sector, they’ll work with you in terms of gpa I’m sure. UC’s on the other hand may be a stretch, but they may work with you as well.

For reference I had 610 W 650 CR 520 M
What colleges are you planning to try for?

Great scores. The assumption will be that your knowledge level (as best as any standardized test can prove) is above the level of your gpa or class grades. If you’re at a rigorous hs, adcoms will undertand the level of academic competition is higher.
Colleges don’t count misc classes like PE, chorus, etc, toward gpa- you knew that, right?

lookingforward, yep, I do know. haha. I’m just worried because previously at least I had 3.0 or 3.2 in core subjects, but well now I have NO A’s and a C (in AP Calc…). Plus my school isn’t really known to be SUPER rigorous (though if you asked me, I’d say it is!) so I’m not sure how that’d come in. I’m really worried if this will just ruin my chances.

easauceda- looking into UCs (SD, Davis, Irvine, and SB!) and privates like NYU, BU, BC. Also I did one cal state - cal poly SLO

The situation is kind of the opposite for me… I have a 3.8 GPA but only a 2000 for my SAT overall. I need your test scores!!

Ugh. Would gladly exchange it for your GPA!!!

The AP classes and the scores put you up in a good spot, but try and raise it up to at least a 3.0 if you can for the UC’s, if you can’t, there’s still a good chance they could work with you

Hello i’m in the same situation as nocrackup, i unfortunatly recieved a 2.8 in my senior year, but this is due to the fact that I took difficult AP classes, AP Calculus, AP Phsyics, AP English Lit, my UC GPA is a 3.8(Soph-Junior) unwieghted 3.4, I have 4 Ap test that I have passed with the worst being a 3 and the only 3. My SAT was not too good, I got a 1460 and ACT 22, my subject testing is good, Math 2: 560, Spanish: 740. Can anyone tell me if im in a impossible postion please?
I applied to CSULB, Fullerton, Cal poly, Cal poly pomona, UC Merced UCR, UCSB,UCI. What are my chances into getting into these schools. I really want to get into Cal poly pomona, I applied into the Industrial Engineer program, should I switch into to an easier major like Math, to increase my chances for Pomona???
