2.9(ish) GPA...chance me?

Hey this is my first time on this site so here it goes…also, I know I am not the brightest student so please don’t come here if you are going to bash me and make fun of my stats:

-I am just about to finish my Junior year of High School

-I did OK Freshman year, bad Sophomore year, and very good Junior year (hopefully they see my upwards trend)

-About a 2.9 unweighted I THINK, but I am not sure; I will update when it recalc’s

-Taking AP Psych and two Honors English courses next year

-Took the SAT for the first time this spring got a 1570/2400 but I am gonna take it again next fall and I think I can get 1800+ because I am going to kill myself training for it this summer. Also gonna take the ACT.

-Two very strong letters of recommendations from teachers I am very close with and have great relationships with

-I am almost done with a very good and well written essay (or so my parents/teachers tell me) about how having cancer as a kid (Clear Cell Sarcoma of the Kidney if you want to know) has impacted me today.

-Not many ECs but: I have been involved with YoungLife for about 2 years, Neighbor to Neighbor, Soup Kitchens, Co-creator of the “App Club” (we make apps for smartphones/iPods), Special Olympics, I play guitar and take lessons but I haven’t been able to find any opportunities with that, and I am going to try to get a job next year if I can find one (jobs are very hard to get for a 16 year old boy in my town).

Colleges

-UCONN: the main school of my state but I heard it is very tricky to get in now a days.

-St. Michaels College: my parents went there.

-UNH

-Emory: BIG REACH but you only miss the chances you never take haha so I will give it a shot

-UGA

-Florida Schools: FSU, UCF, USF, University of Miami, Rollins, University of Tampa

-University of Denver

-ASU/U of Arizona: I am not sure about these since I heard they are big party schools (then again, I think a lot on my list are party schools O.O) and I do not drink/smoke/do drugs but my guidance counselor put them on my list so I should still check them out. Party Schools do not bother me by the way, I am sure I can still fit in fine considering I think I am the only sober kid in my whole school and I still have friends and have fun.

So yeah, these are just some schools that seem interesting to me. Please give me advice and suggestions for schools and help my search become a little easier! I am very scared for college as well, so if you have any tips about the transition from HS to college and college life please let me know! My email is sptackels@********** if you want to contact me and I will always check this site and my mail so I can swiftly respond to you guys! Thank you!

Don’t bother applying to Emory and Miami…
Don’t take that the wrong way
