I struggled a lot in high school academically. Despite being an avid reader, writer, and learner, my ADD really prevented me from getting the whole homework/studying thing down - I finished junior year with a 2.98 GPA, weighted. Although this isn’t terrible, it’s a big mismatch from my ACT score of 32, and I really feel like another year of high school before college to mature and work on my academic habits would benefit me immensely in the long run. My parents feel the same way, and are willing to support me in this. Cost isn’t really an issue. What are some good PG programs that would admit a student with a less-than-stellar GPA like me?
Wildcat, I would first look at schools with Centers for Learning so you can get the extra support you need for your ADD. From personal experience I would suggest you check out Worcester Academy in MA which has such services but also many classes that will appeal to your reading and writing interests. There are usually between 18-30 PGs every year, who are part the school’s senior class but have special activities, as we’ll. Be sure to check how many PGs a school has each year. You want a nice balance—not just a handful. BTW, your struggles are the exact reason many kids do PG years. Good LucK!
Mercersburg accepts quite a few PGs, who are there for a variety of reasons. As far as I can tell from what my children say, they are integrated rather seamlessly into the school community. There is some support for learning differences as well.
