- Do you have to submit your application before your counselor can write a letter of recommendation?
- Are essays around 350 words frowned upon for being shorter?

Any material the college receives will be put in a file until your application is complete. As long as it’s recieved by the deadline, it shouldn’t matter what order things are submitted in. Some colleges are ok with a few things out of your control, such as recs and test scores, arriving a little after the deadline, but check the websites to see what they say.
I don’t think a short essay is necessarily frowned upon. If you say what you need to say, and do a good job with it, that’s what matters.
