2 Languages In College

For my major (social work) I need 4 classes of modern language. My freshman year, 1 class first semester, 1 class second semester. Same thing for my second year. Do they have to be the same language or can I take ASL and French?

Without naming your school, no one else can help you understand your school’s requirements.

However, it is likely that such a requirement really means competency equivalent to that gained by passing the fourth semester course in a language.

I looked it up, and it has to be the same language. And Blinn College. Do you think I could I take 2 modern language classes in the same semester?

Ask at your school, and, typically they don’t allow concurrent enrollment because one level builds on the other.

Do you mean like could you take Italian 101 and Japanese 101 in the same semester? Then the answer is that your college probably allows it, but it might not be prudent. Language classes are generally a lot of work. If one was your major and the other was a complementary language (like you were majoring in Spanish but also taking French or Italian), I would say that’s more doable, since you’d be completing major requirements for one but the other could serve as free electives. But since you have a third major (social work) and are trying to take language classes…when would you fit in your other classes? Not to mention that learning a language is quite demanding, and the classes usually have a language lab/speaking component that takes several hours outside of class.

The classes I wanted to take are ASL and French

You’re probably allowed to take two languages concurrently, but it may be a lot of work. Language courses (especially beginner language courses) tend to have a lot of in class time, as well as a lot of homework.
