2 languages

Good idea or bad idea?

My Courseload would look like this
Lit hum
Uni Writing
Calculus I
Accelerated Elementary Italian
Elementary Chinese I

I want to be a math major. Italian is a must for me. Would adding chinese be an overload?

I don’t know, are you gifted with languages? or do you struggle a lot with them? cause I know people that wouldn’t have a problem studying 2 or 3 languages at a time, as well as people that do.

your schedule is astoundingly light on math classes for a prospective math major–the math major is 42 points, w/ 2 languages that’d be virtually impossible.

think about it this way–unless you take honors math a-b, you need to take
calc I, II, III, IV
approximately 6 +2000 level courses
approximately another 4 math/cognate courses

that sequence no longer exists

if you are an intended math major you should be able to start at a higher level than calc I

it’s in the 09-10 bulletin

MATH V1207x-V1208y Honors Mathematics A-B 4 pts. Prerequisites: (see Courses for First-Year Students). The second term of this course may not be taken without the first. Multivariable calculus and linear algebra from a rigorous point of view. Recommended for mathematics majors. Fulfills the linear algebra requirement for the major. (SC)
Recitation Section Required.

Autumn 2009 :: MATH V1207
MATH

203 Mathematics Building
M. Thaddeus 5 / 100

oh interesting …it had not been offered for the last 6 or 7 years

Hmm, I’m also considering taking two languages, actually a mid-level Spanish and Elementary Chinese, but as a prospective poli-sci major.
