One of the “completely optional” questions is “if you think additional information or material will give us a more thorough impression of you, please respond on separate sheets.”

Could you include a recommendation letter for this part?

MIT requires 3 SAT II’s, one in Math, one in Science, and one of your choice.

If you took both Math IC and Math IIC, could you use your extra Math as the third test score?

Yes, you can include additional recommendation letters

Technically, you could use the extra math, but I wouldn’t if I were you. If you can take another SAT II and do well on it, do it.

For entry year 2007 and beyond: SAT I or the ACT with the writing test. In addition, we require two SAT II Subject Tests: one in math (level 1 (Ic) or 2 (IIc)), one in science (physics, chemistry, or biology e/m).

There was an SAT II thread about a week ago, check here for some details.

In short: for the coming application season, you must take a Math, a Science, and a “third SAT II of your choice”, and Ben Jones has said several times that it’s fine to make the 3rd SAT II “the other Math” or another science. You will not be penalized at all for making that choice.

And while you COULD include another letter of recommendation as your “more thorough impression” material (which in itself is completely optional), you could instead use that opportunity to show more of yourself in some way, or explain some part of your application or background that you feel may need explanation, and just have that extra recommendation mailed in as an additional rec. (Just make sure that anything sent in outside the application materials has your name and birth date on it (so said Ben at one time in the past) so they can be sure to match it up with the correct applicant.)

Yes, for entry year 2006 you will need 3 SAT II’s. For entry year 2007 you only need 2 SAT II’s (but in 2007 the new SAT I is required instead of optional).
