2 questions...

1) I got a 2220 on my Jan SAT. 700 - CR, 760 - M, 760 - W (11/12 on essay)

Is the Barrons 2400 book the best for improving CR And W scores? I need to know all the rules they test on the Writing test, as well as strategies for CR.

Can anyone testify for this book? I’ve heard some good things, but I just want to confirm.

Second…

2) For the US History SATII Subject Test, will the AMSCO book for APUSH be good enough to prepare you well for it?

Anyone help?

Barrons is significantly more difficult than the real SAT. If you have trouble in a specific area, which you evidently do not, I would not recomend using it. You are towards the high end of the spectrum for scores and I would wager that you mostly lost points on easy questions and stupid mistakes, as did I. To study for the next SAT I recomend that you use the Barrons writing section but just take a bunch of practice tests to improve your consistency.
I do not know anything about the USH SAT 2 so I can’t help you there.

My critical reading scores ALWAYS keep me from getting a 2300.

I know I can easily get my math up to an 800 (always careless mistakes) and I need more practice with writing, and A LOT of practice with CR.

I am currently in APUSH and I have an amsco book. I’ve heard from classmates above me that it is excellent prep for the AP exam.

AMSCO is probably good, but I used Kaplan for 770 SAT US History and 5 on AP test.

Uhh… I just got done reading Barron’s 2400 chapters on Critical Reading a couple minutes ago, and though I haven’t taken another practice test yet, I at least feel more prepared… and I think I have a better strategy.

Also, I think Barron’s 2400 is the best book for people who want to get over 700 in a section. Its Critical Reading questions and passages are very hard, but that’s because it assumes you can get all the easy ones right easily (which I assume is your case). So if you’re going to get a strategy book, I’d say Barron’s is the only plausible one, when you already have a 700.

I haven’t read the Writing section yet, I just got the book today… I’ll update tomorrow.

Hope that helps.

I JUST bought the Kaplan 2400 book! =(
Does anyone know how that ones compares to the Barron’s one - especially in CR?
