2 schools, 2 essays, similar topics?

Hi, I’m applying to both CALS and A&S, and would be majoring in animal science and biology, respectively. My CALS essay was going to talk about my experiences/interests regarding animals, insects and reptiles specifically. Zoo volunteering, 4-H, personal programs, etc. But, the A&S prompt is very similar, it asks me to describe two of my intellectual interests, which would be environmental science and zoology.

Basically, is it bad to mix subjects between the two essays? What if they cover the same information, will they be reviewed separately? Or should I just choose CALS?

Thanks,
Nicole

not sure, but i thought people said not to apply to two schools?

I don’t know, I was told by both my Cornell tour guide and another poster on here that applying to two increases your chances.

Applying to two doesn’t really increase your chances at all. If your primary choice school decides you aren’t a good match for that college, but may still fit in with the university as a whole, they will forward your application to the second school. However, this happens about 1% of the time (usually you are either flat-out accepted or rejected). If you are applying to two schools for entirely different subjects, they may question your passion and fit for any of the schools.

That being said, it’s fine to cover similar subjects in your essays. Your primary choice school only sees your primary choice essay. Your secondary choice school, if they see it at all, will only see your secondary choice application.

Yup, for example, if you apply to engineering and put hotel as alternate, you have a very very small chance of getting into hotel

Thank you very much Ranza and Superdub!
