What wonderful ideas both of these are. Hope these are ideas that become more widespread.

I did think when we moved my father-in-law into his assisted living room that it was alot like when we moved our son into his dorm room. There was only so much he could bring with him due to space considerations, it came with the basic furniture he would need, and a full meal plan in the cafeteria.

They ought to become more widespread, as assisted living facilities are so highly priced that they typically have a lot of vacancy. I can almost guarantee you that the story about the girls’ apartment being available because it was being renovated is an obfuscation of the fact that the facility has a continuous supply of empty rooms.

In any case, its a good deal for the girls.

How wonderful. I’ve read about a few facilities that offer day care for children, pets, and the elderly, with separate space and programming but lots of opportunities for the populations to interact. It’s great for everyone involved to benefit from different kinds of company.

My friend has a son who was drafted by a pro baseball team…two summers ago he played at the lowest level of farm team. He was housed with a local family but some guys lived in a nursing home. I don’t know how the guys liked it, but I bet the ladies at the home really enjoyed having the young male athletes on site!
