2-year MLA programs for a student with a pre-professional landscape arch degree?

I’ve noticed that many MLA graduate programs only guarantee 2-year programs for students with professional, accredited landscape architecture degrees (BLA, BSLA), and that students with pre-professional landscape architecture degrees are more than likely to spend a little over 2 years (possibly 3) completing the program.

Coming from UC Berkeley with a preprofessional landscape architecture degree (B.A. Landscape Architecture) and looking to hopefully cut down some tuition costs by looking for a program that can be completed in 2 years, does anyone happen to know a list of grad schools outside CA that offer 2-year MLA degrees for someone with a landscape arch (albeit not professionally accredited) background?

I know UC Berkeley, Cal Poly Pomona, and USC’s programs can be completed in 2 years with the degree I currently hold.

Hi afaimx,

Check into Virginia Tech’s 2 yr MLA program. It is offered at Blacksburg and in Alexandria. I would contact either Brian Katen, the LA program chair with your questions, or Dr. Mintai Kim. He is actually a UCBerkeley alum (MLA and PhD).

It is a great department. VT is state school and doesn’t offer much in the way of monetary scholarships, but is lower in costs for OOS students in general. Blacksburg is also a pretty inexpensive place to live. Alexandria is not, but it its locale may suit your tastes.

Here is a link from the website with some information. Best of luck to you!
