My friend and I took the MC exam today. I thought it was pretty easy (compared to the 1990, 1992, and 2004 ones I did for practice). However, we only did the MC part; our school didn’t have the FR part or the laboratory part… When I mentioned this (because all previous exams had a FR part) my science teacher said it wasn’t in the folder she received. How big a problem is this??

Anyways, I can probably get at least a 40, probably a little bit higher. Is that a competitive score nationally? Anyways, thanks. And post your thoughts/comments on the exam as well.

It is very possible you took the USNCO LOCAL exam, which is a qualifier for the USNCO National Exam. The local exam does not include a free response or laboratory section. If you did take the USNCO National Exam, you have a big problem, because you wouldn’t be eligible to qualify.

I took the Local exam and got 52, but I have yet receive knowledge as to whether or not I was selected to take the National exam.

[At least in my region, Los Angeles] The qualifying score was a 53.

I can’t believe how low I scored–41. Oh well, second in the school–my friend beat me by one!

I thought this was much harder than the past exams. On the 2003 which I took for exposure, I got a 53.

crypto - I agree w/ Hecaton. Unless the whole process has been radically changed, it sounds like you teacher messed us and gave you the local exam (much too late to qualify you for anything). The Nat’l exam is not given by teachers at schools. It is given by a professional chemist to a group of qualifiers from all the schools in a given area. And it includes free response and lab.

bah… oh well, the test got me out of chem class for the day - haha

i took the test today and have advanced. i guess not many take it in my region. we all had to gather and take it at a local university for middle tennessee. good luck to all!

the national one is in DC and Maryland.

i think it’s given all over the country. i know i’ll be taking the national test at tennessee tech university.

I qualified and I’ll be taking it at the same university that gave the local section exam. The National exam is given nationwide in many cities to over 900 students.
